2005 LS2 versus 2008 LS3

Not sure why engine power matters to a board full of people who never go over 3k RPM and chastise those who race/use/drive Vettes hard.
Most of you wouldn't know the difference between a Gen 1 SBC from the 80s and a Gen 4 LS3 since the majority of these cars are putt putt toys.
That's right. I said it.

I think it's funny that this guy's procharged 05 is suddenly the fastest car ever. Are we supposed to be impressed with your 560hp?
Just because it's the fastest car YOU'VE driven, doesn't mean it's the fastest car ever.
Better stick to dyno racing so you don't break your diff.

While the 30hp may not be a seat of the pants noticeable feeling, a recent trip to Bristol Motor Speedway proved which car is superior in the quarter mile. My 2008 Z51 equipped, manual transmission, 3LT car consistently beat my buddy's identically equipped 2005 LS2 by .5 seconds in 6 separate runs in the quarter mile.
That's a lot of asphalt between the two cars at the end of the dragstrip!
You need to look around for that LS3 car that has the options and colors you really want - they're out there!

OP I was in the same EXACT boat you are in with this issue. I wanted an LS3 because of the extra power but really 30hp isn't that much of a difference. If the 2005 is cheaper and it is ultimately what you want you can always spend a few extra dollars and upgrade your HP. I have a 2005 6MT and absolutely LOVE it. I have added full exhaust, long tube headers, and vararam intake and it beats a stock ls3. Plus I bought the car for about 10k less than what I was finding ls3's for in my area.
It all depends on what you plan on doing with the car. Is it only a DD? Do you plan on upgrading any parts? Racing? Drag weekends? For me, I want to rebuild my ls2, put a 402 stroker in it and maybe down the road a turbo, but I love pushing my corvette past 3k and driving it how it was intended to drive. Fast.
Regardless of an ls2 or ls3 go with what you like interior wise and color of the car. You can easily add more HP with less money than changing interior or painting your car.

I just checked and the ls3 was in an accident (was rear ended) according to the carfax. Not the end of the world and I don't really trust carfax too much. Decisions decisions...

also, I am going with the auto trans, and I keep hearing the 2008's A6 trans is so much better than the A4..
but personally I want an aggressive, hard shifting trans that doesn't 'act confused' and lost ever time I want power (this is exactly what the 6 speed trans in my CTS4 feels like)
