GS Auto Trans question...
So….my previous C6 and the C5 before that were both manuals. Now my 12 GS is an auto. Took a few rides to get used to that….. Question: For those of you who have the setup…..how often do you put the tranny into "sport" mode and use the paddle shift system? Comparison to the manual process??? Like it?? Thought I would never say it…BUTTT….glad I have the auto because the stop and go traffic around here is a real pain and since I never plan to track the vehicle, the auto makes since.

I have this auto/manual option in a few vehicles and never use them. I prefer the auto trans. I have driven plenty of manuals and am so tired of the stop and go, I never want to see another manual in my life.

I use the paddles most of the time. Way better then the paddles on my SS. Nothing like down shifting to get the "pop pop" at the red lights. Plus it makes twisty roads so much more fun. Getting a trans tune is where it is at if you enjoy using them and don't mind blowing your warranty.

My C5 was a 6 speed manual, had it for 15 years, I have a health issue that doesn't allow me to use a manual. my carbetween my C5 and my new to me C6 GS was a 09 CLK 550 coupe that downshifted with the left paddle and upshifted with the right, I haven't gotten used to the downshift from the rear padddle and upshift from the front, frankly I liked the left/down right/up much better.

So far….two days into this…..I haven't tried the "S" mode, but after reading some of the above, I definitely am going to give it a shot…I did briefly do a couple downshifts with the paddles just to hear the "pops" at a red light, but have not done the full deal using the S.

I rarely use the paddles on my '10 GS. I'd rather not "work" when I'm cruising in my Vette. I have a 5-speed manual in my work car and that's more than enough shifting for me - it's definitely not fun in stop & go traffic though I rarely have any to worry about. The one and only time I've found the paddles very useful and FUN was coming down Pike's Peak last October when I was out in Colorado on vacation. That way I was able to control my speed and stay off of the brakes unless I really needed them. To top it off I don't like where the paddles are located because when I'm just riding down the interstate I like to rest my hands on top of the wheel center instead of having to hang onto the actual wheel - I can't do that because the upper part of the paddles is there. I won't do it but I wouldn't mind swapping out my steering wheel for a manual shift car's wheel without paddles... Obviously some people like them, some people don't.

Not a GS, but I keep my 012 coupe in sport mode all the time. However, I probably use the paddles only about 10% of the time.

I always use the paddle shifters You,ll find that the trans. won,t shift as much I feel there is less wear and tear on the trans. when I,m controlling the shifts
