Shipping Wheels - Rate suggestions
I wanted to reach out and ask if any knows who maybe the best Freight Shipping company to send 4 C6 Wheels (wheel be professionally boxed) from Southern CA to Georgia.
I have a corvette Forum member that is interested in wheels to purchase from me.
These are standard C6 Base wheels, 18" and 19". The box weight for each will is 28lb's ( 4 boxes )
Thanks for help and feedback

My experience in selling a set of wheels to an individual last year was about $25/wheel via fed ex ground.
At the time, I was quoted $35/wheel to ship UPS.
I believe some drop off locations are franchises and rates could vary. Hope this helps some.

May or may not work for you, but check out Greyhound Package Express. In the past, several members here stated that they found them much cheaper when shipping things such as C5 Z06 titanium exhausts.

You'd just have to see how you get them in one box or I think they'd charge per rim

I'd suggest checking the USPS, too, because they have that "if it fits, it ships" policy that disregards weight as long as you can fit the item into one of their boxes. I also believe the actual boxes are free so you don't have to buy any shipping/packing materials. Also, they have a pretty large selection of box sizes, so there may be ones large enough for single wheels.

Have you seen those boxes? Probably all that could be shipped are the valves. I'm sorry...I couldn't help it.

Here's some things that apply to get the lowest rates for the average person.
First, place the most weight you can get, up to 70# in the same total package and without exceeding 108" combined length and girth. That also means you can take multiple smaller boxes and tape, band, staple, glue, or any other method to tie them together into one single stable unit. In the case of 4 boxed wheels at 25# each, simply tape or band them together to create 2 units of 50#.
Then locate a friendly business that does daily and high volume UPS shipping with similar size/weight or higher density packages and that will ship on their business account. Depending on the relationship with the business, a gratuity is suggested.
Lastly, arrange with the receiving party to pick up the shipment at a pre-arranged business location. Always avoid shipping to residential addresses and especially to rural locations, even business ones.
My low volume UPS account cost to ship 50# to Cartek in NJ is $42.23. A higher volume high density shipper would beat my cost considerably. If I was average Joe taking the same package to a UPS store and sending it to a residence one block away from Cartek, the cost would be $78.93.
If you stacked/tied all 4 wheels together (100# minimum) and took them to a trucking company depot to be delivered and picked up at the depot by the recipient at their end, that may be the best price for Joe Blow.
