Rear end clunking noise (clutch packs) lawsuit???!!!
I am a fairly new owner of a C6 base coupe corvette. The car has 30,000 miles.
it seems that most people are having to replace the clutch packs due to GM using a bad oil.
I don't think this is fair and there are 1000's of people spending thousands of dollars for GM's failure. There should be a recall on all late model corvettes or we should all get together and do a class action law suit. What are your thoughts?

welcome to the smoke and mirrors, and deceptively poor quality that is GM. my transmission is toast after 10k miles and i purchased brand new. GM wont honor the warranty. so good luck with a class action. they simply dont care.

The bad *** lawyer will make millions and we'll get a check for .14 cents. The LT1 F-bodies were notorious for drive shaft vibrations. Around 01ish I read on CZ28.com GM put out a TSB and the cars would get the 1LE piece if they were still under warranty. Of course by this time the last LT1s built were in '97 and by then the 3 year portion of the factory warranty was well over. GM will fix cheaper stuff out of warranty, my 08 Sierra got a new dash cap because the factory cracked and it was fixed as good will. That's a dash cap, not a rear end though.

Everyone's so quick to jump to lawyers. How much do you think you'll get from a lawyer during lawsuit? Nothing.
Want to make a difference, file a complaint with the NHSTA and get everyone else with the same problem to do the same. GM is much more likely to listen to a safety lobby than they are a few people with an issue. Even if they settle in a class lawsuit Neil350 is absolutely right, you'll wind up with a few cents while your lawyer makes an order of magnitude more.
Do your research beforehand though, so you're well prepared. Or make it a stipulation that your class action lawyer include in their request for action a free replacement of affected parts at cost if you and your constituency succeed in the lawsuit (or better yet, they do an affected model recall). Best of luck either way.

Considering GM put out a TSB about this I can't imagine you'd get much. But hey, let's pile a lawsuit on GM and take even more money out of them, even if the lawsuit fails. I mean, there is already talk of the C7 being the last Corvette made, so why not help nail the coffin shut so we can potentially get a few bucks each?

Otherwise, grin and bear it. Do what needs to be done to fix your 'vette because something happened. Remember: sometimes bad things happen to good Corvettes.

Most people? Bad oil? I've never seen data to support that. Some people had clutch chatter with the pre-2009 diff fluid, but to my knowledge it did no harm and was easily corrected.

When I had my 07 Z, I had lots of clutch pack noise and went to the new GM oil which solved the problem. No damage was done to my clutch packs and it was quiet until 46K Miles when I sold it.

Mine was noisy early on. I did the friction modifier additive and it quieted down, but came back later. I did the all-in-one lubricant and that fixed it for good. That was about 6 years and 90K miles ago.
Recalls are for important safety stuff. Count me out of your class action.

You did not mention what year your C6 was. The 05/06 models were notorious for chatter. Replacing the oil/lubricant was covered at that time .If the owner of the car at that time did nor avail themselves of this fix, Caveat Emptor. My 07 had a minor noise which could be corrected by driving in a tight circle about 3-4 times at about 20/25 mph. The fluid was replaced at no charge and the noise went away. No clutch pack issues. Car is at 41ooo and no drive train noises. Possibly if you had done a better job researching the product before buying you would have been an INFORMED buyer. I fail to see how you can blame others for your lack of common sense and intelligence.
