Same here R&L. The snap-crackle-pop of the C-6 rear end is a well know phenom throughout the world....LOL. But I've never really heard of them going bad either. maybe if you leave the poor oil in the diff. for too long. I'm still amazed at how some people can get on here and state that "if your Corvette breaks then just fix it". Or..."All cars break, just live with it". I'm guessing all these people are rich or something. Heck...if I were rich I'd just buy a new Vette every 3 years so I'd always have a warranty. And then sit there and just laugh every time I saw that harmonic balancer dancing like a drunk....LOL

Yes, I see you posted on 3/8. But, have you been back on since yesterday's last visit by you? And did you see Justin Zip Product's post today? Did you do the multiple figure 8s required? What do you think of his considerable experience and comments at seeing Corvettes with limited slip over many, many years?

Is it correct to assume your car is not only relatively new to you (your words, post 1) but that you didn't put on all 30K miles? If so, how was it taken care of before you got it? After all, let anything go long enough without proper maintenance and replacing used up fluid with new fluid may not do the trick, right? Such as a tire going flat.....

Rear end oil should be changed regularly. Every turn you make slips the clutches and contaminates the oil.

Since when did the diff become serviceable? I went through a diff on both my V's, and they were the V2, 2010 and 2011. They replaced the whole diff not replacing a clutch pack or ring. Of course they did the new oil TSB but that didn't fix it. The 2010 was tuned and the 2011 was pullied, tuned, intercooled, and cutouts. Both done under warranty.

My 06 had a clutch chatter, changed to the upgraded oil, problem solved.

Since when did a diff become serviceable ?? Your kidding I hope ? You mean you didn't/don't know that you can take a differential apart and your giving opinions on how one should handle their problems ?? Interesting.

Does this clunk only happen when the vehicle is moving? I have been hearing a clunk when sitting still. Only happens during the first few minutes of starting the car. Could be end links I suspect just not sure.

You have an '06? That was bought used this year? Check your paperwork and find the clause that says " This car is under a Forever Warranty and GM will always replace any worn or damaged part free to all owners".

I didn't know that GM Warrantied their cars forever to all owners. The car is not unbreakable, nobody ever claimed it was but you seem to think that GM should pay for your repairs?

It's a 7-8 year old USED car, live with it.

Typical. This is a good thought in theory, but these cars have had some of these issues within a few thousand miles or months of rolling off the assembly line. My 2006 is now 8 years old with only 20-K miles showing and the harmonic balancer has probably been bad since 2007 and 5-K miles. It may be 8 years old a "USED"....but I still think GM should buck up and replace the balancer since it's obviously a faulty unit right from the get go.

I had the chatter early, I went under and changed the oil myself and cured the problem. I'd sure as HELL try that on the car and see if the trouble clears. I think it was Amsoil with the friction additive.

[QUOTE=R&L's C6;1586287825]I recall reading lots of threads about changing out the oil but never having to replace the clutch packs.[/

that's GM's first line of defence...change the oil. I brought mine (2008) in last fall and it was Dx with the dreaded Clutch pack disease. The changed the oil as perscribed and nothing so the next step is to change the pack and it's pricy. It was the fall so i simply stored the car. Apparently spring is on the way so i called the dealer yesterday for the damage.....$900 in parts and a 7 hour job. With tax that'll be in the 2K range.

***'n crazy spending that kind of $$$$ that does nothing to enhance the look or performance of you ride. But what to do...it needs to get fixed.

$900 for rear clutches?? That sounds more like the whole unit.

You can't replace the clutches without removing the diff, 900 sounds right for parts and labor

Thanks for the replies

Looks like i don't have much of a choice, certainly leaves me not impressed with GM or corvette for that matter. There's all kinds of info on this problem
that dates back to 2006, obviously not a new problem yet they failed for years to deal with it accordingly, am I to assume this replacement unit will some how work flawlessly once installed? have they made any changes to the unit that will be installed?

Sounds to me like you DO have a choice per Justin post #53 (at an INDIE shop): find a place that doesn't charge you $900 for the parts and 7 hours labor. Your choice.

Before I would spend that much money I would get it warm and change the oil a few times and make sure to turn some 8s and 0s to flush it out good. I don't see how they would be bad unless it was run dry. That new GM oil is good stuff.
