Default To paint or not to paint brake calipers...

I have a Lemans blue 05 with the Z51 suspension. First question is should I leave them stock ? Second, If I do decide to paint them and don't like them, can the paint be removed. Third, if I did paint them, what color should they be ? Looking for some input. Thanks

I have an 06 Lemans Blue. When I bought my car the previous owner had the brakes painted red. My car Is blue, chrome, and black. I always felt the red drew a persons eyes to the brakes and not the car. I painted my brakes with a high temp primer, I then painted the brakes Lemans blue with a can of spray paint I bought from Sherwin Williams Automotive, then I used a few coats of a high temp clear coat. It has held up. I also painted the hub of the rotors the same way.

It's personal taste and preference. Most folks have them powder coated.
I got the caliper paint kit from autozone, think Duplicolor was the name..

I've got the same car and painted them red. Red seems like a safe color choice to me. I've seen some painted the lemans blue color, yellow, and various other shades of grays at car shows. I can tell you I spent a whole day between cleaning the calipers and hitting them with some light sanding before I painted them. Did it with a brush and put on 3 coats. Also put chap stick on the corvette letters and went back and wiped them off so the corvette letters would stand out. It's been over a year and so far they still look fresh and clean up nice.

I'm sure you could remove the paint, I've not personally had to deal with it.

I'd say go for it since your asking about it. Just make sure you clean them really good, put the extra time into it and make sure you put the prep in before painting. Also, there is plenty of caliper painting DIY posts on the forum..

Would you happen to have some Pics you could post. I'm contemplating the same thing with the same car. Curious what Blue looks like?

I had a previous thread on this. Here's a link. Hope it works. I'll try to repost the pics.

Red or whatever matches your exterior color. My c5 was red w/ red calipers and I loved it. It got a lot of comments too. I can tell its the one thing missing on my C6 at the moment.

Just paint them on the car? I thought you'd have to remove them, disassemble them, have them powder painted, remounted, and then brake fluid bled.

I can just paint them on the car with temperature tolerant paint? I have an all white car with chrome wheels.

Go to my black wheel thread for more pics page 2
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...heel-club.html

I took out the top caliper bolt, leaned the calipers outward, removed the brake pads, taped off the rotor, put caliper back in original position, the painted them on the rotor, never took them completely off of the car, let it dry several hours and then reinstalled brake pads etc.

I covered the entire car with some cheap $3 plastic drop cloths

Calipers never get hot enough to require Hi-temp paint. Most regular rattle can paint will be good to 450-500. Rotors are generally OK too unless you are tracking the car or otherwise hard on brakes. I took my calipers off the rotors to paint, but never disconnected the brake lines. You can use a razor blade or knife to slice paint off the letters before it completely dries. The part I like about the rattle can method, is that touch-up is quick and easy at pad changing time.

I zinc plated my rotors rather than paint. That gets rid of the rust on the outside edge.

I guess I am probably the only owner of a vette that actually likes the grey color of my calipers. I think they go great with Cyber Grey. Not much into bling.

Nope, you're not the only one. I like mine the natural gray color as well.

anyone that painted their calipers track their car? I'm afraid it's just going to burn off or turn some ugly shade of brown.
