Default Sinkhole at the Corvette Musuem

It is with heavy hearts that we report that eight Corvettes were affected by this incident. Those cars include:

1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors
2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors

The other six vehicles were owned by the National Corvette Museum including:

1962 Black Corvette
1984 PPG Pace Car
1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette
1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette
2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette
2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette

None of the cars affected were on loan from individuals. We have contacted a structural engineer who is arriving today to assess the existing damage and stability of the surrounding areas. While the Skydome area is closed, the remainder of the Museum is still open.

I would think that if the museum and a sinkhole open up and take 6 Corvette's the place would be closed. I just went to their site and the live web cams show people walking around as if nothing is happening.

The 1 millionth? That would be tragic if it is totaled.

Yes, at 9AM there are still people walking around but the Skydome camera seems to be down. There is some Visqueen up in Enthusiast with a bunch of guys walking in past the barricade but I don't remember where that is.

If this is happening here, I wonder if there are other sections of the museum at risk? That appears to be a substantial area undercutting far more than just the open section. I am really sorry to see this happening as this was suppose to be a great year for the museum.

Here's hoping that the damage is easily repairable and is paid for by insurance.
I've been there twice and was planning a spring visit.

I recall the infamous 1981 Winter Park FL sinkhole that ate like 5 Porches. I had no idea that sinkholes were a problem in Kentucky.

No, it won't buff out and it may be difficult or impossible to recover the cars at all.

Last year a man was eaten by a sinkhole as he slept in his bed when it swallowed his house near Tampa. They never recovered the body.

WTH happened, here.
Mustn't have been any signs this was happening, no floor saggy etc.
Just wham, a hole right there in the center of the NCM taking out a host of collector Corvettes in the process. Weird.

Sure hope NCM is not self insured.
Take beaucoup donations to get this fixed & engineers to check if it'll happen again, otherwise.

That is something, Good thing a bunch of Corvette lovers weren't standing there.

Too bad not filled with C7's rather than History of the old GM. Taxpayers money
can built C7 at a dime a dozen.
