Speed trap warning
Just wondering how many C6 folks us the old school method of flashing lights at on coming cars to warn them of a upcoming speed trap?
This was real popular years ago but I don't see it to much any more.

I do it all the time. Sometimes I get the look like "what are you doing?" But I do still get the grateful nod or wave - just seems to be less these days.

I never flash my lights at cars, but I flash my lights at the first semi I see after I pass the trap. Semi's can't have radar detectors. As soon as they are aware of the trap, they alert other truckers about the trap on the CB.

I've seen it a few times, and actually found a trooper just down the road from where it was signalled. I've also seen other Vettes that flashed there parking lights just to acknowledge the Vette similar to the "wave" If I catch it in time sometimes I get them flashed back.

I never flash. I understand the courtesy to other drivers but there could be other things going on with that LEO hidden up the road. It's not always about catching speeders. You don't know who's in that car you're warning. I let everyone drive at their own risk.

Before CB it was almost universal but I seldom see it any more so I tend to not flash mine. Set the cruise control at the right speed and you can pass almost everyone out there and still not have to worry about traps. I run through traps all the time significantly over the limit and haven't been stopped in more than 15 years.

There are at least a few states where flashing a warning will get you a significant fine, Massachusetts, Maine, and Connecticut being three. In Maine, where I lived for thirty years, the Staties (yup that's what they're called) will have a car stationed away from the radar trap observing whether cars coming in the opposite direction flash their lights. It's enough to make the average scofflaw Vette owner slow down!

Me too. I also flash to let trucks and buses it's safe to get back in the lane after passing me. I like when they flash back to say thanks.
I learned that one from watching my father, who drove a truck for a living. He would do it. Thanks Pop.

I used to untill one of the local cities started "reverse stings". They weren't running radar to catch speeders but to ticket people who warned the on coming traffic. It's all about additional revenue since 2008.

Some states prohibit your flashing lights.
a Federal Court just ruled that flashing your lights was protected under the 1st Amendment.

Florida State police have said they won't enforce the law prohibiting flashing. Locals do as they please.
Yes, I flash.........ONCE

I live in the 2nd biggest speed trap in the US and I always flash. Around here, LEO have been transformed into another arm of the municipal revenue department. They used to pull you over for 1MPH over the speed limit, but the State put in a law that prohibited them from stopping unless you were 5 over. That and having red light cameras on every stop light is their main "taxation" method. Well, that and adding utility taxes since the state legislature limited the hikes on Property taxes.
