Any downside to having "side skirts" on your C6? Considering it.
I got a black '08 C6 Z06.
Been eyeing the pictures of people who have skirts on their black corvettes, e.g. Centenniel edition Z06, pretty sweet.
So what's the downside of "living" with skirts?
Do people step on them or kick them by accident while getting in and out of the car?
Do they get scraped up in certain situations, whether speed bumps or certain ramps etc?
Just wanted to know what I'll have to put with to get a nicer look to my Z06.
If you are proponent of the skirts, feel free to give me a recommendation of what brand is best for Z06.

They do scrape if you not careful.
Getting in or out is no different with or without side skirts.
In my opinion, they add the aggressive look to the car, so they are a must for me on a Z

I have the Katech ones on mine. My wife kicks them once in a while getting out of the car, but they're not scratched or anything. I've not scraped them yet 3/yr 15k miles of driving.

Safety Car
I've been thinking of getting them as well but I don't like the look of the wheel 'flair', if that's what you call it, that's in the front of the rear wheel well that meets up with the back side of the skirt.

I didn't have them on my '11 but have them on my '13. I have actually 'kicked' them a time or two getting in or out. I haven't tried to get a jack and jacking puck under the new one yet, but it does seem like that could be more of a challenge too.
I think they are a must, appearance wise, on the wide body.
I got oem with the car.

No problem whatsoever with my side skirts after over a year of use. I believe they help guard the doors and front fenders from some front wheel debris. Biggest problem with chips on the body was in front of and on top of the rear wheel flares. Xpel was the cure for that. I agree that flares are a must for the wide bodies. Go for the front splitter while you're at it to finish the package. Yes, you have to be cognizant of where you drive but you get used to it and not a problem.

Drifting
Ditto the post above regarding the beating side skirts can take from road debris, particularly the front six inches of the leading edge just behind the front tire. I have Xpel on my ZR1's front end including the splitter, but to save a few bucks I am using that 3M Paint Defender product on the front part of the side skirts. I have never scraped the side skirts and don't worry about them. You do need to be careful and ensure your jack clears them when jacking the car up.
I love the side skirts. You will too.

I got a set but sent them back. I did know about drilling all the holes needed to install them.

Melting Slicks
Love mine. OEM ZR1s on my Grand Sport. Got the Xpel covering. The OEMs have a plastic flare in front of the rear wheel so that part doesn't get beat up like aftermarket fiberglass or carbon fiber ones. Never scraped them. The chin splitter is the part I worry about.

Got the ZR1's on mine. Have scraped a time or two on speed bumps. A low jack (harbor freight style) goes under car easily. No probs getting in or out.

I have had them for a few years now with no issues. My first set were painted and the rear flap got beat up pretty bad. I then switched to carbon fiber and had the rear flap done in carbon fiber also. No issues at all. I did break them when I went off roading into a tire wall at Homestead, but that had nothing to do with the side skirts
SO I am on my 3rd set, the current ones are carbon fiber also.
I love the look of them. I would recommend them.

Haven't had my Vette a year yet, but I can't imagine driving with a splitter on the front that doesn't flex if it hits something. It's bad enough now, trying not to hit stuff in the road, but at least the stock splitter is somewhat forgiving.

Calipers look nice. Are they painted or powder coated?

So it sounds like the skirts require drilling holes that will then be visible if the skirts are removed in the future.
if that's the case, I'm going to take a pass. they look good but I don't want to not have the option of removing them.

The sides are where you drill and screw. But I know people who have used the double sided auto body tape on it and is just fine. It is very secure, and you have front and rear screws anyway.
