Bingo! You can't take it with you. It's just a car. Might as well drive it before the warranty runs out instead of letting it collect dust in a garage.

Understood, the rebuild would be out of your pocket. I was speaking more regarding the matching numbers concern. I personally wouldn't want a stock motor for another stock motor where the same failure could happen. I'd want to beef up the valve train.

Collectible !?!?!? There are so many fast OEM GM vettes being produced nowadays, none of them are going to be collectibles( C6 Z06, C6 427 convertible,C6 ZR1, C7 Z06 etc). Forgeddiboutit. Enjoy today. You very well may not be alive 30 years from now.I figured out a long time ago, I don't "save" my fun cars for the next guy.

The cars of today will not be worth anything extra for a long long time. The ZR1's prices are currently dropping like a lead balloon, so what makes anyone think that the 427's are going to appreciate in value? Maybe in 30 years, and after your dead, the person you left the car to will probably drive the P*** out of it, or at least enjoy driving it anyway.

Fact is, s*** happens, and sometimes it's bad s***.The good news,It is being fixed by a GM OFFICIAL DEALER so you will have all necessary paperwork to show the engine change and the reason for it. Your options would be to sell it,keep it and enjoy it,or trade it. Paperwork makes all the difference in these cases. It shows continuity and history.

Does anyone know what percentage of LS7's have had this problem? Is there anyway to find out? To listen to the complaints it sounds like the problem has claimed a 1/3 or more of them which I doubt is true.

As for my particular car:
Built: 1st week February 2013
Engine assembly: Mike Priest
Mileage at failure: 5100
Failure: Oil pressure was low, 9 PSI at idle. Took it in to dealer who diagnosed connecting rod end clearance was out of spec causing the rods to rub against each other contaminating the oil supply with titanium shavings
Resolution: Engine replaced under warranty

I think it has been about 162.5% so far, at least.............that is what I deduced from the doomsday threads and responses over the years from the folks that say they would never buy an LS7, but yet, having owned a ZO6 for a few years and being in a club with a half dozen ZO6's---where none of us ever had any issues nor knew of anyone that had issues (and we would ask at various shows we attended), I was stupid enough to buy a 427..........I just guess I shouldn't have believed the big corvette dealers in NE when they said they hadn't had any more issues with ZO6's than they had with all the other corvettes......I'll never learn. Now I am stuck with a gorgeous 427...........

I wouldn't worry about having a replacement motor - just get it done and then enjoy the car. It is a shame that GM never did fix the problems in the first place though.

My heart goes out to you.............hang in there. Just curious------for you folks that had an engine replaced, do recall the production number of your car, and the name of the person that built it (if you were on the 427 registry in the 'sticky' section the data may still be there)? I think it would be interesting to see if there are any similarities among the cars that had problems.
Excellent idea. Post up the builder's name.
