When I bought my gs this year, the salesman said he was powder coating his stock painted wheels for $100 each.

I saw on some site where you can buy black rims and exchange your existing rims for some $ relief.

Has anybody on here done either of these things and if so, where did you get it powder coated or where did you buy your exchanged wheels?

I live in Milford Michigan. Between Brighton and Pontiac.

Haven't done it yet, but I'm getting ready to do a swap for a set of chrome rims. Only 500.00 with the core, but I'm on the fence of just buying the chrome set outright because It'll be nice to have a spare set.

Any pics of the rims you're looking at buying?

Just spray them with plastidip - it looks like you have the painted silver wheels.
Your going to incur a fair amount in shipping, mounting, balancing etc.
Its a great way to see if you are actually going to like the color change
Now if you are changing wheel styles everything I just said is null and void

Thats what i was going to suggest also. Plastidip is a durable spray coating that dries as a rubber coating that can be peeled off if you dont like it or want a change. They come in countless colors and finishes...

I plastidipped my C5 wheels as well as my truck

I like the exact same as came with the car only in black. Which makes me want to paint mine,lol.

This could work! I'll look up the Plastidip. I assume I'd have to break down the tires to do it right.

no you can do them on the car but i took mine off so i could get to paint the calipers. IMO it makes for a better converage with them off. You can mask off the tires for overspray or peel that part off afterward

As mentioned above just pull the wheel and tire off mask the tire clean. prep and spray
Some of the things I have seen done with plastidip are pretty amazing

If your not comfortable doing it yourself most larger towns have someone that will do the work for you and sprays the dip with a commercial sprayer.

Very forgiving product.

I'm getting pumped about this. Can't wait for spring so I can do this.

Has anybody painted their brakes while on the car or do I need to get the covers installed. I'd like to paint those red.

I just plasti-dip'd mine, if you have access to a heated garage, no need to wait til spring, can get them done in just a couple of hours! Good winter project!

And painting the calipers you can go with http://www.g2usa.com or Dupoint has a kit too, it's brush on paint and can be done while still on the car. You can spray paint them while on the car but that would require a lot of masking off the wheel wells and around the wheels wells on the exterior to avoid overspray.
I've used the G2 paint and is good stuff!
