transmission stuck in park

Max,
My shifter got hard to shift, so I took it apart and it's not like the A4.
I couldn't see anything to manipulate as per the A4.
I managed to be able to push down harder on the push button when I had it apart, and it freed up.
My shifter does it occasionally, but it seems it's when I shift too fast out of park, and hadn't pushed the brake in enough before shifting.
Once I get it back in Park (hard to shift) then once I restart the car, push the brake in for a second before shifting, all is fine.

Why has GM not issued a "Recall" or a replacement service for this issue?! Not only is this a '05 problem (A4), but other model years (A6) have the same or similar problem. The scenarios for death, injury, or loss of property are not far-fetched as a result of this issue.

One of the top "Corvette signature flaws" with the harmonic balancer wobbling.
Fixed the issue on my 05 Z51 by means of the "tie back" method, nothing but sweet shifting since, and free from the stress of getting stuck somewhere. Zero cost. Only a couple hours of work in the car.

You can hack the end of the interlock pawl off at the base of the A6 shifter, no problem. I used a dremel but a hacksaw blade would work too with a little patience.

Be prepared to pay $500 to $700 to have the shift assembly replaced. Been there, done that!

Push the Accy LED on the start button but do not start the engine, put your foot on the brake and gently pull the trigger on the shifter and slide it to N. You should then be able to start and drive the car.

The problem child is the solenoid that is built into the base of the shift assembly. GM only sells the assembly. in my case the assembly got trashed when it was forced it out of Park. It then would only go into R, D and N. I had no S or P. The problem was the solenoid but I did not know, at the time, the correct procedure to get a C6 out of Park. The solenoid that is part of the shift assembly controls the foot-on-brake to start circuit. By having the car in Accy mode without starting the engine and the brake depressed you can ease the shifter from P to N and start the car. It's in the manual along with other stuff we all forget.

there is a trick i learned, in a jam to get out of it put your elbow on the center consule make a fist hit straight down and back on top of the shifter as hard as you can down and back and it will shift out do it 3/4 times. the button will feel different. duno how it works but it does...

I tried the 'ACC' sequence before when mine was acting up. It didn't work either. The solenoid is the problem and isn't going to work all the time either way. Tying is back or cutting it off is the real fix. A new shifter installed by the dealer puts you right back in the same situation. You just wait for it to do it again.
