Default Got my first speeding ticket in over 20 years

That's the bad news. Yeah, I was definitely speeding and the city cop definitely clocked me going a good bit over the limit (I was passing another car and should have been more aware of my speed).

Funny though, after the cop gave me the ticket, he leaned into the car and said "nice C6, love the color, you gonna buy the C7?" I replied that I was hoping to order a 2015 Stingray when the specs are announced. The cop said, "well, I'm a Mustang man myself". Gotta a GT-350, gonna buy me the new model 2015" when they come out."

I almost asked if he wished to race, but decided to keep that offer to myself. Instead out we spent the next 15 minutes talking cars before he finally got back into his cruiser and drove off, waiving.

Might have been a pretty positive experience had it not been for the little blue piece of paper in my right hand...

Too bad he did not give you a break on the ticket. Best bet is to plea bargain it down to a lesser offense.

As retired law enforcement I would never advocate or condone disrespecting an officer or saying what I was thinking but the first thing that went through my mind when he said that was "I was until I realized how much this was going to cost me in fines and increased insurance rates!"

Saying that would definitely increase the fines!

Check out this thread. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=3388990

The good news is you & the cop have Vettes in common. He's just doing his job and part of his job is to be flexible. Be in court early before trial starts.

Get a high quality radar detector--at least you know when on is around. (Unless you live in VA.)

Ouch! I think I'd rather have them business like and keep it at that if they're going to give me a ticket. I love when they say, "Have a nice day"! We all know there is a speed limit posted on every road and our cars go so fast at the blink of your eye. How often do we look at the speedo or HUD and say "Oh crap"?

^^This^^ I've never received a speeding ticket while having one, regardless of good or bad it compared to other models. The Escort Redline is a great product.

I would bet a million dollars that he would NOT have ticketed an off-duty officer driving the Vette. Loyalty among bruthas and all that - which ends up making a mockery of the law. Oh well, it's not a perfect system, but it's better than no system.

Too bad about the ticket. I keep my eyes open all the time, plus my laser/radar detector is always on, plus I only do 'spirited' driving when I'm 99% sure there are no snakes hiding in the grass.

Plead not guilty & meet the cop b4 the trial. That's what I did a few years ago in my C5. I was going 18 miles over in a 35 zone. The cop let me plead to 5 miles over which is a fine with NO POINTS!!

Before I say 62 in a 45, let me preface buy saying I was doing 52 in a 45 when I came up behind a slow moving car. I pulled to the left and accelerated just enough to pass and by the time I got around the car, I saw the blue lights come on from just over my left shoulder. I looked down at the speedo and there she was, 62mph in all her glory..

I will say the cop advised that if I just go pay the fine at city hall, the 4 pt ticket automatically reduces to 2pts and the fine is "just" $85.00. I think that's what I'll probably do...

He probably wouldn't have gave him a ticket if it was a Mustang that he was driving.

I just got my first one in 25 years 10 days ago. 78 mph in a 65 he says. Picked me out of bumper to bumper traffic. Seems like he was just on a fishing mission and was training somebody else... "Sir is this YOUR car?"......"Sir, is the weapon in the car?" (after looking at my license/carry permit....umm can we get to the part where you tell me why you pulled me over?

You did the right thing, however, a little verbal judo would have gotten you out of that ticket.

Go to court on it and ask for probation and you shouldn't have to pay a fine or suffer points. It will depend on what your state statutes are.

BTW! I've done this for a living............he-he-he!

since you haven't had a ticket in 20 years let a lawyer handle it. probably cost you no more than $125 max plus you will not get any points and it won't go on your insurance. just make sure you do not get another moving violation in 6 months.
good luck!

I dont understand this; if im going to give someone a ticket, im not going to shoot the sht with them afterwards. Its bad enough they are getting a ticket, but then act like we are buddies after the fact? Just strikes me as odd..............I bs with people when I give them a warning, like " I understand that you were doing xyz, I have a similar car" etc...........Had an older gent in a z06 moving good on the interstate, but it was the middle of the night and no cars around. Hey, I get it; he was cool and old enough to be my dad with a spotless driving record. Am I really going to jam this guy with a hard copy? So he got a warning and we bs'd about z06's for ten minutes................just my viewpoint, FWIW..................
