Default My Vette Punished me for taking Her to the Track

First time with the car at the track, 3rd run of the day and when I slammed it into second I heard what sounded like bolts dropping out the bottom of the car. Now she shudders HARD when taking off in first gear, but seems to drive OK after you get going. I'm thinking either the clutch is shot or I sheared off a bolt on the flywheel or something. Thoughts?

Any nice aroma around the car or under the hood? The description sounds like you hot spotted the pressure plate and flywheel (smoked the clutch).

Sure sounds like a clutch issue

The smell is fine but the feeling sure leaves a lot to be desired!

Thoughts are you need to get that puppy stripped down! Somewhere along the job you're gonna find the problem. If it's the first time you've dropped the drivetrain you are in for some real fun!

If you diy this you are gonna build such a bond you'll never treat it so rough again! Trust me

Good luck, keep us updated.

Is yours an 05? Have you read up on the know flaws with the 05 Diff housing? i believe its the right side of the case has a major weak spot and is know the literally split the case there when pushed hard. A flaw know by Chevy, resulting in them coming up with a whole new diff for all 06 and up. The new diff has a different bolt pattern, which is why many of us 05 owners my self included get a conversion to run the newer 06 and up diff. if you have an 05 grab a light and see if you can get under to inspect the diff. when the case sheers some times it doesn't completely come apart and causes a lot of internal damage which could be the source of you're issues.

I don't think you will break the rear coming out of second gear the issue with the differentials is usually on the hard launches, check anyway but I doubt you pulled it that hard in second.

Why would you slam it into second? Why not simply put it in second?

Yes I have a 2005... looked under the car and didn't see any visible damage. If it was the diff wouldn't I more than likely have problems other than just starting off the line?

Just using an expression bro. Don't think I shifted any different than anybody else who drag races, which of course isn't a gingerly shift.

Possible exploded driveshaft donut/giubo.

What you would be looking for is a broken casing and you would have exposed gearing maybe even gear oil dripping, so if you didn't see anything obvious, the problem is somewhere else.
