Attn: GM Rep - can you provide Document ID 3581454? (concerns oil smell)
Regarding the oil smell that ~40% of us C6 owners suffer with - GM has apparently released information on this condition as of July 24. Document ID 3581454 should give the repair process.
Is it possible that a GM Rep can make this document available for viewing/download?
Many thanks, Dave F.

I just had my oil changed, got the smell. The mechanics "couldn't smell it". left the car with them for two days, service manager drove it home, and couldn't smell it. I got it back, can smell it immediately. ...........

A quick google and I found this thread on another forum about it. Sounds like a couple of things that were speculated on our forum. Oil level and/or rear main seal. Cant wait to read the actual tsb.

Of course they couldn't smell it, this is a normal smell for them they're mechanics (well some of them). I work in the Printing industry and when I walk into the Press room and ask what is that smell the answer I get is "what smell" they are used to it and it becomes normal.

The link for the Corvette Action center is correct, It is for the lube on the rear main seal causing a reaction which causes an odor if examination leads to no physical leaks. Correction is to replace rear main seal

I am never going to believe install lube on a rear main seal is causing the smell. At the temps these engines run all the install lube will be dissolved into the engine oil . No way a chemical reaction going to happen with residual install lube. Have any of you ever actually changed a rear main seal? The amount of install lube used is insignificant. JMHO

no not surprised at all, Since they also didn't notice the fuel gage issue came right back after they "fixed it". Turns out when you fix it you also need to clear the codes.

On mine, when I get the smell, I pull over and open the hood - no smell in engine compartment. Yet the smell IS there in my HVAC. It's almost like some part of the PVC system is plumbed into the HVAC. Perhaps a vacuum line or something is allowing engine blowby to vent into HVAC and then into cabin????
Does anyone have a schematic showing any PVC and/or vacuum lines from engine to HVAC?

I've found that mechanics can't hear very well either. I guess they're getting rattling/creaking/squeaking noises all the time while they're working on cars
