Default Interesting message on the DIC

It's been very cold around and I noticed this message in the DIC: ICE POSSIBLE.

What other words of wisdom come up on it?

That's the only one I've seen like that. It's just a generic message when the temperatures are in the low 30's or below.

I believe I have seen "headlights suggested" on the Corvette.

I got the ice message the other day. Very strange for South Texas.

Yeah the headlamps thing is pretty standard and the false alarm tire monitor thing is usually when a sensor battery is failing. The ice message is the only real warning I've seen though.

I got the over inflated message after starting with cool yires at 35 psi and running several hours on a hot summer day; reading exceeded 40.

That's what I like about the HUD. If it's not on the HUD I don't see it. I don't text while driving and I don't look around at stuff inside the car while driving. If it's important the HUD will say "Check gauges".

I've driven with temperatures down to 20 and never seen that message. I'd like to. For example, right here right now it is in the 70's but I could drive to Illinois today and be in the teens by evening. It would be nice to be warned when the temp started to get near freezing.

Haven't really noticed lately, but my best recollection is that the "ice possible" message appears at 36° or less.

That could be an indication your tire sensors aren't programmed into the car correctly. Did you check the other tires to see if one of them was over pressure? Over pressure warning comes on when tire pressure hits 42 degrees.

the car is smarter than most people now a days but the messages are all common sense. ice possible, headlights suggested etc.

Actually it doesn't necessarily give a warning soon enough. When on track I use the HUD almost exclusively. I monitor the tach, speed and oil pressure on the HUD and oil temperature on the DIC. In my opinion oil temp is the most critical of the two oil readings so keep a close eye on it. If it starts to go above the normal 260 deg reading I will slow the car. The high oil temp warning doesn't get set until oil temp hits 320 which is far above the point where I want to run.

As it turns out the readings on the DIC are easier to see than the gauges. They are lit brightly and are digital (numbers Vs a needle) which makes them easily interpretable.

I received this also with low tire pressure indications.

I can't argue with that other than to say that is just a difference between where you want the alarm set and where the GM engineers thought it should be set for more "normal" users. You know that consistently high temperatures are an issue but the engineers didn't want nuisance alarms and they didn't think an occasional higher temp is going to be a major problem if it is under 320.

You're someone who understands numbers. It is surprising to me how many people don't. You know there is no significant difference between 259 and 260. I run into operators all the time who think that it is a big difference because 2 of the 3 digits are different. Those operators do much better with a gauge. Remember the first C4s were panned in most reviews for having a digital dash and no gauges? Then the gauges came back.

But in either case we'll just have to agree to disagree. The only 2 accidents I've had in the past 40 years (both relatively minor) were caused when I was looking at something inside the car instead of the sudden changes going on outside. I just believe there is nothing going on inside the car that is more important than what is going on outside. Give me a buzzer and a warning on the HUD if something inside needs my attention. And make both of us happy by giving us a more detailed HUD with adjustable alarm points.
