Default Question please about service

My 2012 base coupe with 9000 miles just had an oil change and the dealer recommended I do an alignment due to slight uneven tire wear. From this forum I know you guys think this is important on these cars so I agreed and they are doing it now.

But my question is this - they also recommended a $300 fuel system cleaning, which I rejected at this time . They told me it should be done annually.

Whaddya think? Did I do the right thing?

Complete rip off in my eyes .
Unless the owners manual indicates otherwise on the service schedules.
I drive my company car 55,000 miles a year so I see a lot of service bays - never have I had a fuel system cleaning.
If you have injector issues, bad fuel or some other cause for concern that would be a different story.

Fuel system cleaning is BS. Especially for that much. And only at 9K miles? For shame!

Save your money. I feel I maintain my vehicles pretty well but I never do service just because I passed a mileage milestone or because it's been a year since the last time.

If the fuel system cleaning were a necessary maintenance action, it would be listed in the maintenance section of your owners manual - it isn't. If you have been using suspect gas or there is some other definitive reason to clean your fuel system, then consider it. Otherwise, just use good gas and perhaps a bottle of Techron annually and things will be fine and your wallet will feel better.

Wow -quick response, thanks. Looks like I made the right decision.

Do you all agree though, tht the alignment is a good thing to do?

Yes on the alignment, and correct on refusing the other fuel cleaning service.

If you have either a Texaco or Chevron station near you, run a tank full of their gas every now and then. It will do the same thing.

Alignment, yes absolutely. Fuel system cleaning, not sure what they are going to do but just the process of taking fuel connectors apart could cause more problems than it is worth. Put a six dollar bottle of Techron in the tank a couple of times a year instead.

BTW...$300...wow, that's really funny. Ask them what exactly is done in that procedure, it would be fun to see what they say.

A dealer who tries to rip you off with a fuel system cleaning will try to rip you off on other things too. They are not trustworthy.

I wonder what they charged you for the alignment -- and what specs and accuracy they used ???

The fuel system cleaning is a HUGE rip off because all they would probably do for your $300 is pour a $10 bottle Techron or similar into the gas tank.

When I had my 05 in for a balancer replacement they charged $169 for a four wheel alignment.

$189 for the alignment - I didn't think that was too bad.

Thx again for all the feedback about the fuel system cleaning thing.

I agree, just pass on the cleaning of the fuel line.

I would be curious as to why they think you need it.

Good luck
