Sold the C2 and bought a C6!
Hey there, Corvette guys and gals!
I just sold my 1966 convertible and bought a 2005 convertible, all in one week! I had been looking for a while for the exact C6 I wanted, and I got it, but I had to have it transported from Wisconsin to California. It's silver with a red interior, has the Z51 package, 6-speed manual, power top, heated seats with memory, and polished wheels. Completely stock except for a battery tender added. I put in some Lloyd's mats and put stickers on the visors, and that's it so far. Less than 15,000 miles on the odometer, and I'm the second owner.
What a difference 40 years makes. The new car is vastly superior in terms of performance, but I think I'll miss all the thumbs-ups and waves I got in the 66. The older car was more beautiful to my eye, and classier, but the newer one is more fun to drive. Well, they're both beautiful and fun to drive, so it's a subjective matter.

The main reason for my change was that I just wasn't driving the C2 enough. It stood out like a flashing neon sign saying "Steal me!," and I was always worried about it whenever I parked it. So it mainly just sat. The C6 blends into the modern traffic better, which is both a negative (it's not as exciting a car) and a positive (it doesn't attract as much unwanted attention). The C6 also has modern security features that make me relax a little more.
So while the C6 isn't quite as amazing to look at, I will get more use out of it, and therefore more pleasure. And the C2 was significantly more expensive, so I got to put some extra cash back in the bank, which is always nice. Plus, my wife never liked driving the C2, which required a firm brake foot and constant input on the steering.
It was a difficult decision, but it works for me, and I'm loving my new baby.

I also have a silver C6 with chrome wheels . . . I think its a great look. And a silver exterior and red interior is an absolute winner too. The first owner bought a very classy, classic C6 convertible . . . congrats on the great find, good luck and enjoy.
ps - beautiful C2 also, but sounds like you've "been there, done that", so good move.

Congrats on finding the C6 you were searching for. I've been down the road you've been down and like every body I have a great appreciation for the looks of the C2, but like yourself I understand the limitations of driving the C2 versus driving the C6. I'm very confident that you'll find the C6 to have many advantages. That's not a knock on the C2, just a recognition of how things have evolved.

Life's all about new experiences. I can see a lot of thought went into your decision. The Corvette is merely a continuum (the interest in this thread underscores my point) and you're enjoying it from one end to the other. I'm happy for you and you beautiful new ride!
P.S. New C6 owner myself and loving every second. Wishing you many miles of smiles. Don't forget to wave!

I couldn't have said it better myself. The vintage models turn more heads but the newer ones are much more fun to drive. You're also gonna enjoy being able to take long trips in the C6
Congrats and welcome to the C6 board

I made the same decision for similar reasons seven years ago when I traded my '66 427/425hp C2 for my '06 C6 Vert.
I've enjoyed the C6 much more and don't miss the very expensive fill-ups with high octane leaded gas, among the many other concerns that come along with owning a pristine classic.
However, the C2 would still be appreciating in value, the C6, not so much.
But I had fulfilled my dream and wanted a Corvette to really drive/enjoy and not just be a caretaker for a legend. If I could afford to own both I would.
I hope you get the same satisfaction from owning a C6 that most of us have, and are free of any remorse.
Congrats.
