Default Salvage car damage

Hey guys, I am needing a few opinions other than my own on this.
I am looking at possibly purchasing this car for a very good price. Despite the price though, I want to be somewhat sure of what I'm getting into before I commit to buy it.

it is a 2008 Z06 with 23k miles. obviously a salvage title. All the damage has been repaired already. I know that the hood, bumper, and front fenders were all replaced as well as the radiator, AC condenser, and intake.

The damage appears to be mostly cosmetic with the except of the crash bar. How substantial do you guys think the damage is and what do you think about the integrity of the frame?

Before you say run away or don't buy it, I am fully aware of the resale value implications here but I am not too concerned about it as I plan on keeping this car for a long while. Insurance and registration are not an issue either.

Have the frame checked out by a frame/body shop.

^Respectfully, from 4 computer screen photos, do you seriously think forum members can properly assess how substantial the damage is to this car and advise you as to the integrity of the frame?

There are any number of threads on here with computer screen photos of wheels, and the debate rages on whether they are plated, polished or painted . . .

If you receive a serious assessment of the damage and frame integrity via a reply herein, I would humbly suggest you file it under Comedy.

I suppose it is silly to expect a concrete answer, so no, I don't expect that. I was however wondering if anyone might could shed some insight on what may have happened to the frame based on the damage. Who knows, someone on here may have experience in the field. I will definitely have it inspected before I go through with a purchase, but I am just trying to get some opinions on it before I move forward any further.

here are some repaired photos.

Still wouldn't touch it regardless. For an insurance company to "total" a vehicle with as much market value as that car had at the time, the damage must have been very significant.

from the original pics with the damage, it has obviously seen rain. I'd say no...

In all seriousness, no one will be able to tell from just this. Have a mechanic look at it and if the price is too good to walk away, don't...

A salvage title means the car was totaled. The insurance company didn't even think it was worth fixing. Factor that into your purchase price.

Go to page 6 of the Z06 frame repair manual and get out your tape measure.

It's an aluminum frame, so the workmanship required for a proper repair will be harder to come by. With the steel frames you can get away with a lot. Definitely have it inspected carefully at the frame shop.

If unrepaired issues with frame not worth anything to you or anyone else.
I would be wondering how badly the frame horns that the rebar is welded to have been bent without being able to see in person.you cant see in the picture.have a body/frame shop check it for you.check the frame horns themselves to see if any sections have been replaced.the car needs to be driven at speed to see if there are any issues.I bought one a few years back at a real good price and kept it for 3 1/2 years.I put 2 new tires on the car when I bought it and never had any issues with car as long as I owned it.I got $2,500. more than I paid for it when sold with new owner knowing its history.good luck with it

When driving it, what sort of issues should I be looking for?

Contrary to what a couple people have written, "totaled" doesn't mean it wasn't worth fixing.

What it does mean is the cost to repair PLUS its value for parts exceeds the cars worth.

If the car is repaired properly you will do fine. Drive it all you want and when you get rid of it you may make money.

I've done it before and I've always come out well. Enjoy...

$30,000 is the price. he was asking $34k.

I have been told by several people that on higher end cars, if the total to repair the vehicle to oem specs approaches 2/3 the vehicles value then it is written off.

That's a fair price as long as it was repaired right. I know of an 08 Z06 bought from Copart that was hit in the front{not as bad as this one} He paid 25K for the car and spent about 8K to fix it..

This one was purchased for $16k and I figure the repair costs were in the range of $8k. Do you guys think I should try for $28k plus dealer fees or is that too greedy considering the asking price is $33,750?

I would offer 50% of whatever it would be worth if it didn't have a salvaged title.

That is a good price, but there are two major issues. First, I would want the car completely checked out by a top notch frame repair shop and second, once you buy,if you buy it, you need to remember that it will be extremely difficult to resell with a salvaged title. most if not all dealers will not want it on a trade unless you give it to them, so you will be looking at a private sale.
