Default Rear hatch lifts

Looks like my rear hatch lifts are shot. Car is only two years old. My C5 is 10 years old and the lifts are still good.

The ones in the GS appear to have a wire in the top. Anyone change these out? Is the wire an issue?

The approved procedure from the shop manual is:
  1. Disconnect the electrical defroster connector.
  2. Remove the strut. (remove the clip and pull away from ball stud.)
The warnings are to support the hatch and pull only on the end of the strut that you are disconnecting. If you pull in the middle you may bent something.

Sounds like it couldn't be much easier.

Extremely simple job. The ones on the hood took literally two minutes to swap. Shouldn't take long at all.

When they are old, they both may just have worn out, but at this young age, you probably just have one that has gone bad from a manufacturing defect. Don't start by replacing both.

And covered under the 3/36 warranty. Let GM do it for you.

Got 50,000 miles on it. Have extended warranty, not sure if it would be covered, but it would take $50.00 in gas for me to get to the dealer and back, so I will just change them.
