New Maryland Front Plate Law
Holy Toledo, Batman!
Don't see that this has been posted here yet but who in the world would ever have guessed that Maryland would relax their front plate laws? Some Maryland legislator somewhere woke up and finally did something useful.
New Maryland law as of October 1, 2013:
HOUSE BILL 577
A BILL ENTITLED
1 AN ACT concerning
2 Vehicle Laws – Registration Plates – Vehicle Manufactured Without Means to
3 Display Front Plate
4 FOR the purpose of providing, for a vehicle required to display two registration plates,
5 that the front registration plate may be stored in a certain manner inside the
6 vehicle if the vehicle was manufactured without a means to secure and display a
7 front plate; making stylistic changes; and generally relating to vehicle
8 registration plates.
This means on C6 and many other Vettes you can keep the plate in the trunk.
See the legislation at
http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/2013RS/bills/hb/hb0577f.pdf
Added later:
For those of you living in Maryland it might be a good idea to copy the legislation in the link (only 2 pages) and keep it in your Corvette.

This is good news for those of us registered in MD!
State troopers have been death on this, I've been pulled over numerous times, and I have even gotten a ticket for being parked w/o a front plate in front of 8th and I, in DC. I finally gave up and installed the d*mn plate. Two of the times I got a ticket were while waiting to get the plate installed. Did they care? NO.
Will it keep them from using this as an excuse to pull you over, now? I wouldn't bank on it.

Great news -- I with the other 37 or so states would adopt the same policy!

I hope it works but I gotta say that as ugly as it may be GM does make and include a front bracket. Cost with car $15. Got mine up in the attic. Good luck Maryland Vette Owners.

This is good news. Regardless of whether a bracket is available as an aftermarket or dealer-added option, the car itself is not MANUFACTURED from its point of origin with the ability to organically attach a front license plate. This language is clear in the statute, IMO.
I will be removing my topflight plate holder and plate in short order.

Be nice if NY did something like that.

CrvtBB,
Ha! Think you can send your TopFlight bracket back to them for a refund?

Wow, as a former LEO from MD, who is well aware of the overly populated/LEO patrolled state of MD, I'm quite surprised to read this.
This is indeed good news. I understand the state of OH is looking into this as well. Heck, it makes sense to me. The border state of KY requires only one plate. Why can't we? I understand further that eliminating one plate reduces unnecessary costs. Heck, charge me double and I'll be happy with just one plate! At least give me the option...

Where is that link does it indicate the law was actually passed? The last section indicates when the sponsor would expect the law to go into effect. I can't find any details on the bill actually being passed.
This link:
http://openstates.org/md/bills/2013/HB577/
shows no activity after Feb 15, 2013.
Let's not go ripping of our front plates....just yet.

z28lt1,
Ooops...hold everything. z28lt1 may be correct. Although the wording is posted online, this bill was apparently not voted on. It seems to have stalled and my assertion that it is law may be incorrect.
Blast!
Having a date that it would go into effect in the bill, doesn't make it a law effective on that date. It still has actually has to pass. This Bill does not appear to have moved to a vote.
Blast!
