Default C6 Fuel Tank Weirdness

I have learned, the hard way, to stop filling the C6 when the fuel pumps stops. Don't even think about bumping it up a few cents like you can do with all other vehicles. When the gas pump shuts off, it is full to near the cap. I tried holding pump handle vertical and that did not help at all. It is not the pump handle design, it is just a poor GM design in the 2008 C6. I did not have this issue with my C3, C4 or C5. It seems to be unique to the C6.

I wonder if GM fixed this defect it in later model C6's?

What's the problem? I don't get it. You're upset you cant put a few drops more in the tank? I would think the problem with the tanks only filling half way would be way more upsetting. Hold the pump handle upside down while filling. That solves that particular problem.

You missed the point. I am not trying to get more fuel in the tank. I like to bump up the $ amount to an even number. I did try holding the handle upside down and it over flowed

Forget about reaching an even number on the pump. When the pump shuts off even1-2 cents more will cause overflow. Nothing wrong, that's just the way it is.

Got your point, but that is hardly a GM or Corvette problem.

I respectfully disagree. The fact that the pump shut off when the tank is full and not before means to me that they got it right. I gave up trying to even up my gas purchases when I got my first debit card. Besides the fact that I don't care at what amount the pump stops on, using the debit card saves me from having to walk inside and face the typically unfriendly, unfulfilled, dissatisfied person working behind the counter.

ARKAY, your point is well taken. on my honda or toyota i can get at least another 50 to 75 cents into it when the pump stops without spillover. i've never had your problem with my 013, i still pump an extra amount without any spillover.

Poor design?? Defect?? A poor design would be having to jiggle the car to get the air bubbles out so you could put in that last 3 gallons.

If you want even cents or dollars, simply buy less gas than you estimate the tank will hold.

From the owner's manual...

"Be careful not to spill fuel. Do not top off or overfill the tank and wait a few seconds after you have finished pumping before removing the nozzle. "

Just take the nozzle out of the vehicle and spill fuel on ground until even number of cents comes op on pump. No Problem!

I easily see that you are not "upset" at this as others appear to suppose. But, I'll just offer that there is no issue with how the tanks were designed. Simply, do not overfill. It is written right on the manual. In the end, there is no real reason to have to reach an even number on your receipt, or to "top off" beyond the already significant tank size already offered by the C6 design. So, I advice against you attempting to overfill your tank.

I never understood the point of evening up the dollar amount. Then again, I rarely carry much more than an emergency $10 bill.

However, the comment about pumping the fuel onto the ground made me laugh heartily.
