Default Corvette brotherhood

I just had to tell this story. Keep in mind I live in a small town, around 3,500, so everyone knows who in town has a Corvette. Last night I get a call from the daughter a man who had owned Corvettes throughout her childhood, he was a real "Corvette guy". Sadly, he passed away earlier in the week. She had a request, could she borrow my Corvette so her dad's last ride could be in a vette? It seems he's been cremated and the funeral is tomorrow. She wanted to borrow my Corvette to give her dad (his urn) his final ride in a vette. She wanted to drive him from he funeral home to the gravesite in my vette. I've never met her but how could I say no? So, tomorrow morning she's coming over to my office for a quick test ride and then she's off to give her dad his final drive. I know there will be those who think I'm nuts for letting her use the car, so be it. I can only hope my kids are that loving and sensitive when my time comes.

I would drive her if I could. Otherwise, it would be a 'no go' for me.

I don't let strangers borrow my car for ANY reason, but that's just me.

You are a VERY trusting person. Maybe a little too much so.

It's a small town and maybe everything she says is true BUT maybe not.

I would at least investigate her story a little.

I want my Corvette to be my coffin! Thinking about it, guess I better buy a triple or quad plot to handle it.

2 most important things:
1) What does she look like
2) Is she married

Man, that scene from the Big Lebowski comes to mind. Make sure the urn is permanently sealed. Also agree, I would volunteer to drive.

I agree with some of the others. I would insist on being chauffeur.

It is a noble gesture, and a story you will always remember. Don't forget your black socks.

I would insist on doing the driving. The young lady will be distraught with her Dad's Ashes next to her. This is asking for trouble. its very thoughtful of you to donate your ride.

Wow...very cool act indeed....and good on you for it ....amazes me that some of the responses are from those who apparently value a vehicle/mechanical object over a human act of kindness.....and some of these same guys won't even let their wives drive the car....

Your gut will let you know if this young lady is legit...and it sounds like she is to me.

If you're uneasy about letting your car go, you can maybe just offer to have her come by, grab the Vette and you can follow along in her car. You can offer to chauffeur...and maybe add a little spirit to the ride...but it might be she want's to chauffeur the ashes and perhaps mom or another family member.

I'd personally do it. What's the point of having a special car, if you don't occasionally do special things with it!

Let us know how it all turns out....I'd love to hear the story!

If your car is a an automatic I see no problem as long as you know the route so you can check the roads out etc...

Nice gesture.
