Burning Brakes
1972 VW Baja Champion Se
Special Edition super beetle. Fun, reliable car. AM/FM Blaupunkt radio, (one speaker)
Factory A/C, four speed, mag wheels. I believe it was VW's first attempt at a metallic paint job.
The paint started to fade within the first year.
Cost: $2995.00
Put $500 down and paid $98.00/month for three years.
My car did not have the additional lights on the fender or the white stripe on the side.

My first new car was a 1971 MG Midget.
1298cc engine with a blistering 60hp! It had a 4-spd tranny with a first gear that wasn't even synchronized. No radio. Manual carb choke. Wire wheel knock-offs. The defrost/heater was only controlled by a coolant 'water faucet' on the cylinder head. To engage one had to lift the bonnet (hood) and manually adjust the faucet to the level of heat one wanted. Two interior flaps controlled whether you got floor heat or defrost. That thing was so primitively engineered.

My first "new" car was a 1966 El Camino, 283, 3-speed, Aztec Bronze with beige/gold interior. The dealer thought it was an odd color combination. When it came in, he ordered 2 more just like it for the lot.
Paid $2339 total drive-away. One of the best cars I've ever owned.
I put 32K miles on it the first year while working 12 hrs/day,
7 days/week.

Safety Car
My first car and also the first new car was a 68 Camaro, 327(275 hp), 4sp, 4bl, no AC, no PS, no PB. I still have it!! Ivy gold interior. Paint code ZZ, British Metallic Green, this was an optional color for 3 months (Feb, Mar, Apr). I ordered it, did not buy one off the lot. The car has 203K on it. Sorry to upset the vette guys, it is my favorite car even over my 13 C6.
I was a first year school teacher making $4600, and the car cost $2835. I have the original window sticker (back then don't know why I kept it).

Never bought a car new yet and I'm 42. Ususally I go for ~2 year old or ~30k mi used cars. Maybe a convertible C7 will be the first. It's seems like kinda of a waste of money with depreciation, but I think I'd like to expericence buying a new car just once...
