OEM Hood Liner
Hey guys and gals,
Does anyone know how the crossed flags are applied on the GM OEM hood liner with color crossed flags?
Are they painted? Silkscreened? Sticker? Etc...
Thanks,
Dave

I hand painted mine using Testors gloss enamel paint designed for model cars, planes, etc. I "painted" the design first with a flat clear to seal the fabric. Otherwise the fabric soaks up the paint big time thus requiring numerous coats. Process took about a week. Most of it was allowing the paint to dry. I put two coats on.
I tried the decal that is sold and found it did not line up with the design embossed in the liner. Maybe others have had better luck.

My 1st hood liner, I used the decal. It sticks to the fabric pretty good using the decal sticky adhesive, but I found that the corners started to lift, so I used 3M spray adhesive and that worked OK.
I had my next hood liner painted (air brushed) and that is the way to go for sure.
To do any painting to the hoodliner, it first has to be sprayed on both sides to seal the fabric.
Here are pics of both my hoodliners.
The one on my car is the painted one. The one on the wall is the decal.

Are you referring to the OME hood liners that come with the flags already applied or are you referring to how the after markets flags are applied to the blank OME hood liner?

I have the sticker on mine, working it with a hair dryer for a good while I had no issues for the past 5 years with it peeling at all. The much more expensive and better option is airbrushing but thats not inexpensive at all!

Hmmmmm.....looks like I will be painting it myself.
Here in Oklahoma, it gets pretty hot during the summers. I fear the decal will peel due to the high heat.

Just take the liner off the car. Get the paint bottles (red, black, white, gold, silver, and maroon) and a few 1/4" hobby paint brushes and a can of flat clear and go for it. Take your time, there is no rush. The car drives just fine without the liner. An easy and satisfying mod. Happy painting!!

I've got the vinyl decals on both my C6's (the 2005 for over 5 years) and have not had a bit of problem with either of them wanting to peel off, I live in Texas and it gets hotter here than in Oklahoma. You just have to take your time and work them with a hair dryer

I have good painting skills, so the liner will be painted. I have read through the thread on painting, and it is well within my skill set.
So, I'll be tackling this I two weeks.
Woohoo!!
