Curious, when you say the platelets are not maturing, are they non-functional and/or just being depleted(requiring on going platelet transfusion)?

They want to wipe his entire immune system then do a stem cell / marrow transplant. Then rebuild his immune system from scratch.

He would get re inoculated as if he was an infant starting over.
