If that was true you would have called it to GM's attention last Feb, not post it on the internet 7 months later right after being laid off. The time to get it resolved was when it happened, not 7 months later.

So the general consensus is that this guy should have blown the whistle and put his job in jepordy forsaking his responsibilities to his family i.e. food, mortgage, utility bills ,car payments and on and on because apiece of string was the wrong color? Really? Quite admirable if he did but not too realistic on our part. JMHO

Because he didn't want to lose his job, seems pretty simple to me.

If this was done to only a very limited number of cars, it could be worth tens of thousands of dollars to the current owner!
We all know what limited options mean to the resale value of a Corvette!

and it appears, unfortunately, that he lost his job anyway pursuing a similar QC issue on another part.

The guy gets blasted because he lets the customers know about some shoddy patch work being done that drops the quality of the product being sold? Seriously?
These guys know full well if they step up and say anything they are going to be fired.
If true, its not right.
Would you rather people just kept quiet and deliver you a lower quality product?

Yes, he waited all this time to tell them because he was afraid of losing his job, but I guess the burden on his conscious was just to great and said something anyway "The reason I posted this weekend; was that I informed the SL TN President about the use of incorrect resin for a shifter base and I was subsequently laid off the next week with the excuse "due to lack of work"."
The C6 is out of production and the new C7 has an E-Brake, so it doesn't need a boot.
Sour grapes.............
The stitching on the boot is not readily visible. The boot is stitched from the inside and then folded out.

This is a joke, right?? Black thread is dyed anyway so whats the big deal. If it had a lower tensile strength and the seam broke open then I'd understand...but redying the color???

Feel bad for the OP but appreciate the post. Seems like the co he worked for have no integrity. Can't blame GM too much - they were bamboozled but then again quality control is not a GM strong point. Hopefully OP gets a new job at a decent co ASAP.

Nothing, I assume you are fine with coloring the threads with a marker pen and later find out they are the incorrect color. Not my idea of quality.

If you think this is substandard quality don't look too carefully at your ride. From chips and dings to paint runs and orange peel, Corvette has come a long way in 60 years but hey, its still a Chevy.
