Default Is Chevron Techron Good or Snake Oil?

Is Chevron Techron good or snake oil? Seems I read a thread awhile back about the product helping stop false fuel readings and helping combat engine grime build-up from cheap gas. Any experts here?

A woman that I knew, had an '01 C5 Convertible with a gas gauge that didn't work for years. We stopped at an auto parts store, bought a container of Techron (larger size good for 20 gallons). Poured it in her tank, filled it up with premium fuel, then took a ride to Charleston (about 80 miles) and the gas gauge came to life. She was amazed and I came out a hero. It does really work!

I have read numberous post of people that had that problem and filled up with Chevon and it started working again. Can't say so myself but I be believe there most be some truth to it.

I don't know about miraculous fixes but I think Techron is beneficial to use at least annually. It's definitely not snake oil.

Certainly not a snake oil remedy. I use it exclusively and have had zero trouble with either my C5 or my C6. Back in the day I used brand X and can't begin to tell you the troubles I had. Then one day I woke up, filled with Chevron and BANG, all my troubles went away.

OK, not ALL my troubles but you know what I mean.

I've used many different brands over the years, and if there is a fuel injector/carb cleaner cleaner out there that can be called a miracle cure, Chevron is it. It cleaned up the carbs on a multi carb Ferrari amazingly well when it was sputtering and coughing prior to using it.

Techron is absolutely highly recommended!

Question: I see two sizes, a 20oz and a 12oz bottle. How much should be added to a tank of gas?

I also see it is recommended to do this about every oil change. Is that a good time frame?

Every oil change is not necessary. If your car has been sitting or stored I'd use it.

Since our cars have 2 gas tanks. I'd put 1/2 a bottle in the car when it is nearly empty and almost on E, fill with 9 gallons of fuel, then add the other 1/2 of the bottle and finish filling up to get it mixed well, and to get some Techron in both fuel tanks.

I believe as memory serves me that the smaller bottle treats up to 12 gallons and the larger bottle treats up to 20 gallons. I'd wait until the car is nearly empty and use the large bottle, pouring in half of the bottle at the start of filling the gas tanks, add 9 gallons of fuel, then adding the other 1/2 of the bottle and finish filling up.

Probably about every 12,000 miles or whenever the car has not been in operation for long periods of time would be sufficient. Great product, highly recommended.

Not a drag racer product.

Techron cleans the gunk that old or contaminted fuel leaves behind, gunk that accumulates when a car sits and the fuel turns gummy.

Techron is not a "drag racer product", it is just a really great fuel system cleaner.

Also, Techron is in found in Chevron gasoline, another great way of taking care of your fuel system.

The 12oz size treats up to 12 gallons
The 20oz size treats up to 20 gallons
I add the 20oz when it's oil change time.....once a year.

I'm a believer...my snowblower was running rough for a couple of years and I put some in the gas and it now runs great. Was going to remove the idle jet but it is now sealed in with lead in the newer models....thought I would try the techron before drilling out the lead seal to remove the jet.

Good stuff but should not be needed if you use the recommended Top Tier gas instead of the cheapest crap you can find. Also might do some harm if you use too much. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...uel-gauge.html Start at post #15.

Or you could just fill the car and drive home where you add the bottle, start the car, and let the normal flow between tanks mix it all in both tanks in a minute or so. http://www.hessh.de/Corvette/FuelTankSystem.pdf
Some of the pressurized fuel is directed through a feed pipe (N) inside the crossover hose, to a siphon jet pump in the right tank. The jet pump relies on the venturi effect to use pressurized fuel to draw additional fuel from the tank. The combined fuel then flows from the right tank to the left tank, through a return pipe (P) inside the crossover hose. The jet pump is able to move enough fuel to ensure that all of the fuel in the right tank is consumed before the level in the left tank begins to drop.

+1 - Great stuff.

I never had to use it in the Vette, but I had two other cars that suffered from Carbon build up and would ping if I did not use it once a month.

Great tip -- as always - thanks guys/gals for the great tips I get on here. Do you get the bottles they talk about at Chevron stations, parts stores etc?
