Do Not Quote Your Insurance Company to Cover Race Modifications
Just a head's up.
My neighbor, who is of retired age with a stock corvette, placed a quote online with Geico to hypothetically see how much his premium would increase if he added modifications such as heads/cam/intake/exhaust, etc. (he wanted his car to sound like mine). It ended up backfiring on him.
According to Geico, these mods are considered "race modifications", therefore after his current policy period, they will not be renewing his policy for his Corvette! (he doesn't even have mods!)
He called Geico explaining that his car was completely stock and he was simply curious to see how much his premium would increase by had he actually wanted coverage if he did those mods. Geico understood his story, but did not grant him any exception and said that the fact he had the intent to get a quote showed that he was seriously considering getting the "race mods", thus he is now deemed a risky customer, which they do not want to cover. End of story - after December of this year, he will have to find a new carrier.
Obviously my neighbor is fuming and cannot believe how just getting a quote would land him in such travesty. I feel bad for him and it almost seems like some sort of entrapment scheme. I guess from a business perspective, it makes sense to try to reduce and weed out the high risk customers. (Is there any issues of legality here?)
So for my corvette buddies - some words of wisdom - Do not quote for your "race modifications"!

Its very simple, the letter G in Geico stands for government. Anything the government has their hands in is always screwed up.

20 some years ago I got a quote from them and I remember it asking if you owned a radar detector, being the dumbass honest person I was I said yes.
They said we can't insure you then as you must speed and are a risk..... I owned a Chevy Cavalier that went 0-60 in a week

Yeah when i was switching insurances few years back i tried Geico and they didnt want to insure my corvette and Porsche cayenne.
Their reason was that i live in the area with high end cars and they couldnt insure my Porsche. But didnt say anything bout vette....
Till today i have no idea what they ment by the area with high end cars....

I guess it would be out of the question for Gecko to insure a stock 638hp ZR1 then...
Plenty of insurance company's out there willing to take you buddy's money, no worries there...

I have Gecio, & had an incident w/a deer the deer ran out from my right side, and at FULL RUNNING SPEED ran into my right front fender, (this believe it or not caused VERY LITTLE damage,
However it PUSHED the front of my car into a Jersey Barrier then the front end bounced off & the rear hit..
The total bill came to $8xxx + & I never got an increase...thank God...
I never asked about an increase in premium if I added speed equipment.. I guess I'm just lucky my car will run mid 11's w/nothing done to it...
& should be a mid to high 10 sec car in a month (do to the cool air) Ahemmmmmmmm

If he has his other insurance with Geico, and if I were him, I'd take my car insurance policy elsewhere, along with homeowners, liability, and any other type I had with Geico.
So they actually ask questions about mods to your car, or did he just volunteer the answer? I'd guess that most people never report mods to their insurance company.

I hit a deer a few years ago (or as you described, the deer actually hit me, running out of the woods), and my agent said State Farm, and presumably other insurance companies, considered such an accident an act of God and unavoidable. There were no increases in my premiums.
What happens if your an Atheist?

Years ago, a guy I knew had a minor fender-bender in an old, beater (early 1960's) pickup truck. He called his GEICO rep for information only....he specifically told GEICO he was NOT filing a claim. Towards the end of their conversation the GEICO rep informed him his rates were now being increased simply because they were "aware" he had been involved in an accident. Even though GEICO's re-rating his coverage adversely affected his rates with any insurance company, my friend canceled his coverage with GEICO the next day.

Interesting. I used to have GEICO for 25 plus years and when I bought my Camaro last year I happened to change to USAA cause my wife's dad was AirForce and we got a better rate. Well, I have been thinking about adding a supercharger and I called USAA to see how badly my rates would increase. The rep said, wait let me look into this... No they won't increase at all. Just keep the receipts so If something happens you have cost documentation! Priceless!!
I already added headers with tune.
Saving up for the SC!!
