Scratch in my glass - ideas?
I've got about a 1 1/2" scratch on the inside of my glass. I must have hit it with my ring while cleaning the dash. I can't get in there with a buffer. Anybody found any magic that might remove the scratch. You can feel it with your fingernail, but it looks like a long piece of cat hair when you view it from the top. I really don't want to have to buy a new windshield, but I suspect that may be my only choice - that or live with the scratch. Thought I'd throw it out here on the forum for ideas.

I can tell you, I barely touched it and the glass was suddenly gouged. I wouldn't care if I didn't show the car, it's on the passenger side, but I do show it, and it's driving me crazy. I've been sticking a suction cup with a clamp on it there and hanging the car show entry card on it to hide it.

I'm sure it's something that can be done, but probably not easily. Can't recall if I saw "stuff" from 3M, Griot's or Eastwood but I'm sure there are other firms, too. Just wondering out loud if one of those crack filler kits would work? Maybe a call/question to Safelite?

If its a side or rear glass, you have to replace it. I had some svratches on the outside of my rear wimdow and had to have it replaced. Those pieces of glass will shatter from the heat of a polisher according to the glass shops.
Windshields can be polished. You can take out some minor damage from windshields this way.
I had my rear glass replaced. So glad to have that fixed.

Check with a glass shop. They use a compound and it is very messy.
Not certain if they would use some epoxy and then smooth that out. It would depend on the depth of the scratch.

Buffing out a scratch on the inside of the windshield would probably sling compound all over the interior. I don't think you'd like that.
Probably will have to replace or just live with it. Plus, the polishing might cause distortions if it alters the surface very much.

May be able to buff out but not if the scratch can be detected by a finger nail.
I have on also that the dealership clean up guys did after buying the car.

the outside of my windshield got scratched and a glass man was able to sand or buff it out to look like new. im not sure how this would work on the interior of the vehicle. all i know is that it is fixable but really i've never had such a problem with any other car manufacturer. is the glass that cheap that it scratches so easily? oh that GM....

There are kits on the market specifically for this. I bought one for buffing out minor imperfections on my early muscle stuff. The rule is that if you can catch your fingernail on it, it's to deep to buff. I've heard the toothpaste deal but think that's an old wives tale. It's a special compound. I got mine thru Eastwood. I have a very minor imperfection on my side glass. I will report back when I finally have time to try it on my c6. Gonna be tough to get a buffer on inside windshield though. May this compound with serious elbow grease and a rag would work. Not sure. Good luck
