Now that I did the BIG cleaning on the exhaust pipes, I can simply spray them with some carb. cleaner and the minor carbon build up simply dissolves away. Nice and easy. But, it's that initial cleaning that can be difficult. That's where the steel wool helps a lot.

looks like all 3 of us are going to Corvette Hell !!!

I've never looked at the inside of my tips - will have to take a look tonight.

Out of curiosity - how often do you guys take your wheels off to clean the inside ??? Every tip cleaning??? I've actually thought about taking them off - but seems I barely have time to keep it washed and waxed !!!

P21S Polishing soap is amazing. If you're not using it you are working too hard
http://www.autogeek.net/p153.html

Followed by a quick pass of simichrome by hand... all you need.

I use the same "spoke brush" that I use for the wheel drums every time I wash. Just takes seconds. Every 6 months I use a toothbrush and Mother's Chrome polish to get any stubborn spots. Always shiny.

I use Eagle One Nevr-Dull every time I wash the Vette. They look brand new.

I take the four caps off of the valve stems and run them through the dishwasher weekly.

Much quicker( don't need the dish soap), easier, and cheaper......done this for years.
But if you like extreme effort, well.

My tips get brutal after a track day so I'll try almost anything. Even plasti-dipped them thinking if I didn't like it I could peel it off. Nothing doing. Plastip-dip bonded to the tips like white on rice from the heat. Spent hours with several different cleaners, polishes and even a ceramic counter top cleaner getting the plastip-dip off the 2 inner tips. Will try the carb cleaner + Easy-Off for the outer 2 which don't get nearly as hot.

Thanks for the tip.

I tried it on speeraider's recommendation. It worked better than anything with the exception of Wolfgang MetallWerk Aluminum Compound and was <1/4 the price.

I pull my wheels and clean the inside of the rims real good once a year. I clean the calipers and wheel wells while the wheels are off. I use Eagle spray-on chrome wheel cleaner and it cleans the inside part of the rim it hits through the spokes but after a while it can look very uneven. Off they come! The inside gets cleaned, the chrome gets polished including the lug nuts and the tires get dressed. It's a fall ritual that also includes cleaning the top and applying protectant.....Ragg Topp!

I clean my tips in & out at least weekly.
Here they are with at the time, 11K on them, & would you believe a judge at a show in CT had the ***** to deduct points because they said the tips were dirty?
What were they looking at, the butterfly valve areas?
