I'm checking out this 09 c6, but I'm in IL and this things in PA. Who has bought long distance and what advice do you have? I'll be in Philly next week on business and may get to run over and check it out if its still around, but I've never bought a vehicle across state lines.

I am in Illinois and just drove to Minnesota to pick up my 09 C6. I just spoke with the private seller in length. It was also a VERY low mileage garage queen being sold to liquidate an estate. I got a loan from the bank, and drove there with a check and the ability to walk away if the car was misrepresented. Everything went smoothly and I drove it home.

I also paid 12k under book for it.

I definitely would not buy a flood damaged car, if that is the case with this one.

I bought mine 400 miles away. I was looking all over the US for anything that met my criteria which was pretty specific making it very difficult to find something.

I found all kinds of "deals" that were all "mint" according to the dealers. I made the dealers take tons of pics which they emailed me. I even had a couple of people put a car up on a lift. I didn't want to buy a plane ticket and get there for a piece of junk. Let me tell you many of these "mint" cars were junk. Some dealers will have photos taken so it's the most flattering it can be hiding any issues so ask for specifics. Ever notice how some don't take pics of the bolsters?

I also had GM VIS reports ran. Don't be shy about asking for pics or more info.

Looks like a good deal to me !!! Don't sweat it buying something long distance. I live in Pittsburgh. Last 2 vettes I bought I had to Fly to Atlanta for one. And Wash DC the other. If i'm looking at the same car your buying 3,000 miles on it I wouldn't worry the least bit. Good Luck what ever you choose to do ..

I bought mine almost 300 miles away. I did the following beyond the usual (Carfax etc.)

I found someone local on the forums here to go look at the car.
I then found an independent mechanic from the forums look over the car.
I then had a Chevy dealership run the VIN to see if it's been in for service and for what.

I just bought a vehicle 1,800 miles away. I don't advise you do what I did but it worked out very well for me. I bought a car sight unseen on eBay and had it shipped to me. Before completing the transaction I had many in depth conversations with the seller and got a good feel for him and the car. I had him send me a bunch of high def pics of the car too. In hindsight, it wasn't a smart thing to do and I could have gotten completely screwed but I trusted him and I ended up with a great car. YMMV. Good luck!

PA is FULL of 'rewashed' Sandy card from NJ and NY. My advice is stay local and use a professional to check things out, regardless of price, age or miles.

Shipped from New Mexico to fla earier this year with intercity lines. No problem whatsoever and the corvette I purchased is my favorite one I have owned so far.

I purchased my 08 last fall from a dealer about 900 miles away. I saw a lot of photos, and had several phone conversations with the dealer. I made sure that if the car wasn't all that they represented it to be, I would walk away. It has turned out to be an excellent buy, but do your homework. Know what it's worth, and make sure you can get out of the deal if you decide to. If possible, find out who the previous owner was and contact them.

Lol, I didn't look at the link. The car I bought from Minnesota was an AW 09 with 4,828 miles on it. Paid 31k. It was bought new by a collector who died. His family sold it dirty cheap to try and pay for his estate.

Both my corvettes were purchased out of state. I live in NY and found my 1st vette a c5 in NC and the second one my current c6 in OH. My advice, call and ask all your questions, run a car fax, if everything checks out fly in and drive back. Driving home is awesome when 1st getting to know your new car and long distance is the way to do it.

Come to an agreement with the seller about whether or not they will accept a cashier's check then make arrangements with your bank or credit union to have a cashier's check made out to you and the seller. Write up a sheet of things you want to inspect on and in the car (It took me 3 hours to inspect my 03Z in the sellers garage after it took me 4 hours to drive there). He had a lift and I put the car up on the lift and inspected the undercarriage and the brakes, etc. Actually found an issue that got me $200 off the price (he wrote me a personal check). Make sure you have a Bill of Sale form that will be recognized by your state and financial institution. Make sure you get all of the key fobs, and documentation that comes with the car. Getting an owner's history all the way back to the first delivery is a great thing for the future (bills of sale with names, etc).

When it comes to Cashier's Checks sellers have to be very careful since there is a lot of fraud with them. If you can work out something with your financial institution where the seller can cash the check the day you are there and get his money the same day (no waiting period) that will make things go smoother. When I sold my car the buyer had a check that he didn't want to give up until he had the title and I didn't want to give him the title until I had the money. My credit union solved the problem by talking to his bank and arranging for an instant transfer of funds to my bank account.

I bough my C6 our of Florida and Wired the Seller the money. He was an ex-cop and I am ex-con so we had an understanding. Flew in and he picked me up at the airport. Walked around the car twice and drove away. He mailed me the title after the lien company sent it to him.

If you buy one out of town, someone has to trust someone or it ain't going to happen. Going through the airport with an illegal amount of cash is not a good thing.
