Default Using paddles wth traction control off - Poor DIC design!

Here is my rant for today, and it only pertains to you folks with the A6 transmission.

Lets say you want to use the paddles and turn the traction control off.

You put the transmission in "S" and then use the paddles. Whatever gear your in will be displayed on the DIC (very good)

Now, you think about turning off the traction control while using the paddles.

As soon as you push the button 1 time, it disables traction control and puts a message on the DIC that says "Traction System Off".

However, because of this message, it will NEVER display what gear your in .... No Good!

Even if you select "Competition Mode" (2 pushes of the button), that will be displayed and it still will not show what gear your in ... No Good!

Bottom line ... when using the paddles, the gear display [should] take priority over the display telling you that your "Traction System Off" or "Competition Mode".

Bad Design ! ! !

I normally just hit the trip button or an info button to get Traction System Off or any other display off the screen. I would assume this would work in your A6 but I am a M6.

Well, I never thought to do that. Might work

On the other hand, it might not display what gear your in either ? ? ?

I will give it a try next time.

What good is using the paddles if you don't know what gear your in!

I see what gear I am I on the HUD but for some reason the gear display comes on and off on my DIC and never stays on.

Well, I don't have a HUD.

The only time the gear will be displayed on the DIC (using the paddles) is when you have not selected Competition Mode or disabled the Traction Control.

I just found out yesterday, the same thing you're saying. I thought something was wrong with my DIC. Never thought to try it with the traction control left on.............I agree, it's a very poor design. Seems backward to me.

All you have to do is push any button and the Competition Mode, or Traction Control will disappear.

But, will it then show what gear we are in? ... that's what we need to know when using the paddles.

I have a manual so don't have this problem however I can tell you when you select these options you can just press reset once and it'll take it off the screen and go back to what it was showing before. Hope this helps.

Default I hear ya

I hear you Turbo - I suspect the legal guys guided this decision, as all you need is one cry baby that has a wreck and says "well if I had realized my traction control was off I would have ........ " JMO.

Turbo6TA hit the reset button on the dash and you should see what gear your in.
I'm the opposite of you on the gear selection display while in sport mode while doing HPDE events. I like to keep the engine oil temp up on the DIC but it switches back to what gear I shift to reach time I shift. I've got to hit the reset to display the last DIC point I'm trying to monitor.
Hope this helps you.

Hitting reset will allow you to be able to see the gear again.

Hitting anything will bring it back to the gear, I believe. I usually hit reset though.

Yes. When I road race mine I turn the nannies off. Start car, turn nannies off, hit any button for DIC display, put trans in S, use a paddle shifter and it will display what gear you're in.

When I drive in "D" and use the paddles the gear is shown in the DIC display if I have active navigation going. Shows up in the HUD if no active navigation. Is there a way to get it to show up all the time in the DIC display?

It is amazing what the reset button can do if you use it.
