Old People And Corvettes

Robert Heinlein in his 1978 book _The Notebooks of Lazarus Long_ wrote "Budget the luxuries first." Within reason I subscribe to that admonition.
I come from lower Middle Class stock and have been a working stiff my whole life - retired Navy CPO (1984).
Insofar as OLD is is concerned I qualify - 71, bumping hell out of 72.
I bought my first Corvette at age 21 - a '61 C1 - and have driven sports cars, off and on, since I was 18. I'm on my fifth Corvette since 1990 and have more than 600,000 miles in Corvettes as Corvettes have been my daily drivers for the past 23-years. My C6, a 2007, has 117,900+ miles on it....
Life's too short... I learned in Nam the preciousness of life and have attempted to live life each days as it may be my last, for tomorrow - or the next 15 minutes - is promised to no one.
I still have my C6 but an older Ferrari has replaced it as a DD.
It's as Enzo Ferrari once wrote, "Old is not synonymous with stodgy."
Go drive your _____ and enjoy life.... you may blow an aneurism before nightfall.....

I'm 72 and also looking for a street rod. Was in the USAF back in '60-'63. My wife and I will probably take another cross country trip in one of my classic cars next June when the weather is hopefully better than this year, or we might drive my Vette, we'll decide that later. You're as old as you think you are, and I'm thinking I'm not THAT old...... Next month we're going to spend a few days in Ga., then head for Fla.,for a fun trip of cruising the state. Got to keep the wheels turning or they'll rust.

I'm still trying to get a grasp on what was defined as "old"
I consider myself young still but I worked my *** off, got an education, didn't knock anyone up (as far as I know) and not I'm reaping the benefits and enjoying life now without any strings or baggage attached.

I drive my Z06 at speeds over 160, around 36 degree banked turns. I'm an old man of 71.
One of theses day's I plan to slow down. Just hope my rocker has a bunch of horsepower.

To the OP, I really don't understand what you're so bent out of shape about. You overheard someone say that he hopes he can get a Corvette early in life. Sorry, but I fail to see why anyone would take exception to that. I wish I could have bought my first one a lot earlier, too.

Well, I guess 50 is old. don't own one yet but hopefully before I turn 51. I've wanted a real sports car for years. I guess it took son out of HS(and only wanting to learn a trade at the local CC) and a divorce to actually push me there. LOL
My grandfather at 90 (shortly before he passed on) was the youngest old guy I have ever known. He would do things in 80's that made you think of a teenager. He got in a big argument once with his daughter(my mom) at about 85 about how fast he drove. We were following him to a family event and he was doing 90 on the interstate. funniest argument I ever saw. mother kept getting redder in the face and he just had a big smile on his face. One of those smiles a teenager gets when caught doing something stupid.

Then at 57, I lost my job, and lo and behold, I got nothing holding me from doing the same stupid things I wanted to do as a kid. Got my first ink for my 57th birthday, and now I've got more. Been riding sport bikes all my life and at almost 63, after waiting 40+ years, I bought my first Vette--a '13 GS vert. I think this says it all...

I agree with the luxury opinion, but when you make enough to get the luxury the kids still come first and when the wife spends the money in crazy ways you can't do it without bankrupting yourself.
