Overheard at the local car show last night....
We have a small local car show in town that meets every week at a local diner. It's not a Corvette show, but there were several there.
I'm walking by a 2012 Grand Sport convertible, when I turn to see a guy point to the GS and ask his buddy "What's that, a Viper?"
In our little world we think everyone knows these cars. I think there are many, many, out there that don't have a clue.

You could tell 85% of people it's the new C7 and they wouldn't have a clue..

Sometimes, I think that would be considered a compliment?
I was once standing by my 2000 Corvette and someone thought it was a current (new) Corvette. This was back in 2008/2009.

I was asked a couple days ago if my 2006 was a 2013. I told him it was an 06. He stated that it was so shiny & looked so new. I just said thanks, but was thinking, it's called wash & wax your car. Zaino baby.

I remember one time a blond chick asked me what a microwave tower was used for. I told her it was where microwave ovens got their microwaves to cook food. She believed me.

Haven't had anybody not know what my Vette is, but try owning a Challenger. Most people call it a Charger, but it's been called a Camaro, a Mustang, it's amazing.
I've gotten to the point I don't even correct them anymore. When they say it's a beautiful Camaro, I just say thanks, it's a lot of fun.

You don't want to know how many times my 13 Base 1LT is mistaken for being a ZR1. I correct them nicely and say, "No that would have cost me triple what I paid". And then they looked puzzled and say why would anybody do that? So I just keep my mouth shut thinking if you have to ask. So point being almost nobody knows the difference in Corvettes and surprising amount of people don't know cars at all.
