This Forum ROCKS!!!
I have a 2006 6 speed and I head out the the movies last night and when I get back in the car and start for home I hear a metal on metal noise when I engage and disengage my clutch. I'm like what the @#$% is that. I continue home and in the morning I call the dealer to get an appointment but no joy until Monday next week. So I go out and get the light to take a look myself. Finally I find that the clutch spring is broken. I think great. I take it out. By the way my Vette is my only car. I come back in and get on this forum and search for clutch spring and after reading a few posts I find that several people have had the same problem and some have gone without the clutch spring without problems or damage. What a relief. I ordered a new spring and will likely install it when it arrives. To have access to all the knowledge that is out there to help is the greatest thing about owning a Vette. So I just wanted to thank all those who helped in my decision to drive the car without a clutch spring. Thank you all.

Ha, well, I'll tell ya.....so far I am very pleased with my '13 GS. No issues, no problems, no noises, no need to return to the dealer for anything. Everything in my car has worked perfectly from day one.
I read about dash creaks, and squeaks, targa top issues, electrical problems, battery failures, etc. Guess I've just been lucky so far, or maybe it's the Florida humidity that keeps everything moist, and lubricated.

I agree....seems to me that no manufacturer, of any product, includes parts, that cost money, for no reason. The clutch mechanism was engineered that way for a reason.

I didn't read every post, but bounced around the threads enough to get the gist....what a royal pain, but it all worked out in the end, and it looks as though you were well satisfied.

I had my friend and fellow Corvette Forum member JUIC3D remove the clutch spring and it is just better now. It was his idea and for the purpose of "a more linear feel" with respect to clutch actuation. There is more effort involved to depress said clutch but in my mind there was not enough effort with the spring in situ looking back.
