How can you tell if its an LS2 or LS3..
Looking to buy a swap (LS3)
The one i may buy is missing the Fuel Rail covers and intake.
What should i look for to make sure its a LS3? Is there a serial # to look for?

Not sure if this is helpful but if you can get the vin# maybe you can use this to decode it. Good luck.

if you can find the vin # U is an LS2 W is an LS3

if the Mass is an assembly it's and Ls2 a card type an LS3

if the intake is off you can also tell Cathedral ports are LS2 Square ports are Ls3

You have that last one bakasswards. Cathedral ports are on the LS2.

Also, if the engine is out, there's a "LS3" embossed on the rear of the block.

I stand corrected. I am used to seing the ports on my TF heads. I just checked my factory heads, it has been a long time since they have been on the engine.

Just a FYI, but the Ls2 and LS3 blocks/engines are used in other cars than the vet, and do not make as much power as the vet LS2 and LS3 motors.
