Default C6 vs C7

Is it just me or did you guys expect the Lt1 C7 to be significantly faster than the ls3 based C6? I know the car is much more advanced and better made but I was expecting it to be much faster.

It took awhile for the LS3 cars to surpass the LS2 cars for 1/4 mile times from what I remember.

Its like any other new tool. People need time to play with it to learn how to operate it properly.

The 1/4 mile time motortrend posted during their review was surprising. Maybe with a tweak here and there they will make it a bit quicker. Wile I would love to own one as soon as possible I will definitely wait for the second or third model year. It would suck to know that changes were made the following model year. Kinda like between 05-06 and 7-08.

The times I have seen are from 12 flat to Autoweek having the slowest at 12.4. I know these are still solid times, and 11s are expected but again if your look at the C6 Quick list these are almost identical times. (stock vs stock, down to the tires) We can say pro driver vs the avg Joe, but the guys that hit those times with the ls3's are pretty respectable drivers and could rival the "pro" drivers IMO. I'm not knocking the C7 at all, I was just confused when I heard that it would possibly out run the C6Z or be damn close to it.

Will the C7 be faster than the C6 ... sure it is

Will the C7 be prettier than the C6 ... sure it is

Will the C7 have a nicer interior than the C6 ... sure it does

... Except for that abortion of a rear end design that this poor C7 has to now drag around with it 24 / 7

Anybody have a sawzall, cutting torch or a chain saw !

While not significantly faster the C7 is faster, better equipped, and better looking. Not too much more you could ask for at this time. More to follow................

First off let me make it clear I am not a C7 lover or hater. Although I am not overly impressed by the styling at this time,
As for the question, if you are referring to the 0-60 and quarter mile times, then no, not with the small increase in the HP. After all it did put on a few pounds over the C6 and weight will have a big effect on the overall performance. I realize that the vast majority of us do not track our cars except for the drag strip, but the intent of the Corvette is to turn left and right and that is where the C7 will show its improvements over the C6. I would not be surprised to see the C7 Z51 turn some very competitive lap times at say Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, Road America and so.

Since I am a new owner of an 05, C6 coming from an 89 C4, I am still overwhelmed at the power difference between them. I really don't need anything faster or more impressive at this time. I don't track or drag race, I just enjoy the ride and the power this car provides me with for now. I have a lot of respect for my new ride and will do my best to take care of it. For now, C7's are only eye candy to me.

Not on it's best day will it ever be better looking than the C6.The whole car is cartoonish at best, functional scoops notwithstanding! As for the OP's topic... for the 1 billionth thread on this stuff...

The C7 has already put down 12 second quarter mile and sub-4 second 0-60 times. How quick does a $52,000 car need to be to meet with your approval? Or, to put it your way, how much "faster" than a C6 does it need to be?

Thanks for those providing meaningful discussion. For the ones who post how many times it has been discussed....I didn't realize it had been brought up a billion times considering the actual tests were recently conducted and not estimated times from Chevy....but thanks for telling me a billion times! As far as my approval, never really said it needed mine, I was just a little curious on the misleading advertisement of this car possibly running with the upper end C6s...nothing else intended.

Default Deal with it!

C6 v C7 is not a dead horse issue. One of the most interesting threads. Five years from now this will still be going strong. Also love shift v auto, vert v coupe, GS v base and anything about tires. BUT STOP CALLING MY COUPE "SKINNY." Compared to C 2,3 and 4 it's Huge. GS and ZO's aren't fat and my coupe isn't skinny. Can't we all get along?

Don't pay a lot of attention to those that tell you it has been brought up time after time. As far as running with the upper end C6's, if you are referring to the ZR1, it does not stand a chance. As I mentioned in my earlier post, it may just surprise a lot of people when it comes to the Z06. Not saying that it will be able to beat the times that the Z06 can lay down on a road course, but it will be a lot closer then say a C6 GS.

Motor Trend, Autoweek and Automobile all had tests in this month's issues. The C7 is no faster than the C6, and 5-6 mph slower top end--per the test in MT. The Z51 C7 comes in at 3400 pounds +. The C6 base 3208. With the best aftermarket exhausts, performance wise, the C6 gives away ~ 12 hp to the C7 with NPP, and the base C7 is 90 pounds heavier. The ediff sounds great, if you track the car. It also has a lot of nice upgrades and features for little extra money--of course you can spend 8 large and get the fancy leather interior, as well. The C6 over the C5 ended up adding 86 hp and was lighter. That is a major performance improvement. The C7 is not. Lots of good pictures in the three review. I like the front, side ok, rear truly sucks. The 4 cylinder deactivation alone would stop me from buying one. And the moronic quarter windows in the rear are the worst styling feature I've ever seen on a Vette--worse than the tail lights. I not saying the C7 isn't a fine car with solid improvements, but it is not the miracle making the C6 a pos some have suggested.

Every time I track my car (road course) I never think I need more HP. What I think is: I need lessons!
My GS is so far ahead of my abilities. The new car has some cool stuff going for it though.
I know there is unintentional bias built in to my not liking the looks of the new car. I'm trying to have an open mind about it but the back end is so unappealing. Whereas, to me, the back end of my GS is friggin' awesome!

These were the numbers I just read in my new issue of Motor Trend

Grand Sport 12.5 1/4 @ 115 mph
427 11.9 1/4 @ 121.5 mph
C7 12.2 1/4 @117 mph

So the new C7 is right between the top 2 C6's.

Well, I just bought my '08. Besides being ecstatic about the way it drives and looks, one of the things that makes me happiest is that there are 5 newer model years (through '13) that I can draw on as my '08 ages, if I so desire.

For me, the C6 is THE best looking Vette since '57 or '58.

I wanted a drivers car. Not a high tech wizcar to satisfy Best Buy's geek squad.

The more I see of the C7, the more I'm glad I ordered my brand new better-looking 2012 when I did.

And now for the price of a tune, I'm still faster and save 10k at least, compared to the best deal any C7 guy gets today.

I also like the fact my C6 is the only Corvette designed in recent history without Camaro around. Not that I dislike Camaro. I like it. But when you get a fresh design, it's nice to get one without any charges of GM raiding the parts bin....Hint, hint!
