GS stripes on base vette? Confused...
I'm just curious why I see non GS vettes with the GS stripes on the front fenders? Is there something I don't know? What's the history of those hash marks?

After skimming the history quickly, I think I read it all started that one week with the 3 grand sports in 1963....so I guess my question is if I put the stripes on my non GS am I a guy who likes stripes and racing history or a GS wannabe?

My buddy at work has an Arctic White Z51 with Maroon Hash Stripes. Looks good.

Good questions; I'm sure there are some that think putting the stripes on a base is "upbadging" of some type.
Frankly, I don't like to think I upbadge, because I really don't care to act like my car is something it's not. I usually buy what I want.
I've thought about those stripes on my base atomic orange, but I can't decide if I like them or not. They're just like the base R/T Challenger stripes, which they call "whisker" stripes. That said, I saw them on here fairly cheap in another thread. I was wondering if they were cut for a widebody car, if they would fit the base or if the top side of the stripes would not line up properly.

On the other hand, the true factory stripes(not factory installed only supplied) are two tone stripes and most of the after market are a single color, So should you install a single color, you could be considered a guy that likes stripes or a Corvette racing history buff.

If I were to do it I would maybe plastidip them on...but I was more curious what the deal was with non GS vettes with the stripes....but I get it now. Thanks y'all

Look at the Corvette it started on. Yes, its called a GS and it had stripes. However, back then those were a modified stock style body car. So pretty much it was a narrow body with some work done and then hash marks.

I was just gonna say... A GS fan accusing someone with only a couple stripes of "upbadging" is kind of the ultimate irony, isn't it?
Then I was going to run and put on my flame suit.
Personally I'm not a fan of the stripes anyway.

Well I just had a talk with the voices, the stripes don't look bad and nothing against people who have them but my voices said "poser"

No problem with that, I just don't want people asking if it's a GS...but most people don't have a clue I guess...unless they own a vette in which case they would probably know it wasn't a GS...do people ever ask you if it's a GS? Now I'm curious...

Obviously those who have them like them, just wanted to know how it made sense that a non GS has GS stripes and figured history had something to do with it...
