Surely not me. Some of us went for a cruise a couple of weeks ago and stopped here. We didn't have any problems with the valet parking and it was finer than any french cuisine

If anyone is cruising the Minnesota - Wisconsin river valley, their brisket sandwich was to die for....

No. I won't bite.
I'll only talk French cuisine with folks who know what it is.

Now, let's get rid of the valet parking!

Yes...self-park irrespective of the locale. Ocean Prime, Bern's or the Waterside all get the same feel as the local Cuban sandwich shop, Jason's Deli and the local Italian place.

Telling him to F*** Off when he wanted $20 instead of any of hundreds of much better answers: Perpetuating the public's image of Vette drivers as azzholes.

Thanks!

I self-park, valet then comes up to me and says "that'll be $20." I said you just told me it was tip only. He said, yea but you self-parked and that's a $20 fee. I told him "**** off," got in my car and parked in a nearby neighborhood.

I walk back up to the restaurant and the valet says "why you tell me to **** off." He then gets directly in my face and I manage to get into the restaurant where one of the waitresses blocked the valet from following me inside. Manager comes out, I explain, etc...

Leave the restaurant & valet is no longer working. Thank God my car had not been touched since he saw me where I was coming from.

Not sure there's a point to this story, just thought it was interesting to share.
Something similar happened to me at a Perry's in the Houston area. The place was crowded and I told the valet I would self park my car in the valet only area and he told me that he was to drive it and not me. I told him it wasnt happening and that I would pay the valet rate but didnt want him driving my car. He got pissy with me and asked me "Why do all of you rich people think your cars are so special?" I gathered up a manager pretty quickly and explained what his valet said to me. My $125 dinner was comped and he was removed from his duties. I kinda liked the rich comment since I chase bad guys for a living. lol

I won't go to a restaurant that has a valet. It is just another way to screw you out of more money.

They can park my Vette when they pry my cold dead fingers off the steering wheel.
BTY, I liked the **** Off comment and don't give a damn about being politically correct.

Sounds to me like one of those stories where someone is trying to exploit you assuming you have an absurd amount of money because you drive an nice sports car.

I feel that your response sounded warranted, although your delivery might have been questionable to some.

Went to Tony Mandola's and politely asked valet if I could self-park. Very friendly. Pointed me to a secure spot. Tipped $5 on the way by and he was thrilled.

Run outta brisket?!?!

No self-respectin' establishment would run outta.....Oh wait.

Yer not in Texas, are ya?

On topic...

Yep, my response would be similar to the OP if someone was trying to exploit, harass, intimidate, or anything else along those lines. Talk to me beforehand and mention a tip is customary, no worries. We can work it out. But get aggressive or threatening and now we're traveling on a different path.

Nope. I'd not leave my property exposed, or worse myself and mine open to a potential attack after dinner. Once the manager was informed, my dinner partners would know they could join us for dinner elsewhere on that night.

Really has little to do with the Vette.

JMHO.

Same here!! and it has nothing to do about perpetuating the stigma of Vette owners. It has to do about who I am as a person,if you get in my face, I will get in yours. "I don't practice turn the other cheek"

I agree.....telling him was asking him to get in your face. Your lucky nothin happened to your Vette. Thanks for keeping the stereotype in check.
