My Black & Decker has held up very well, but I'm not sure if they still make them.

Most all of them are Taiwan, China, etc these days. So I buy 'a decent one' at an inexpensive price knowing it will not last forever. However the one I have now seems be the best quality I have had and the darn thing is hard to kill - it just keeps on pumping.

Check Griot's Garage. It's a good one.

You must have the same one I have. About 5 inches square, 12-14 inches long. I looked on the B&D website not too long ago and couldn't find it. I've had it about 15 years and it's still going strong and is fast. Looks like I may have to replace the air hose before long, but it has clamps on both ends that look like they would be easily changed. Might even just cut a bit of the hose off where it stays bent.

I have a ingersol rand 3/4 HP bench compressor, no tank, that I've had for over 30 years. It's been great.

Thanks All. I think I’m going to give up on the portable one and go with a real compressor. I need 90 psi for the boat trailer tire. I’ve already spent $100 on this one and it’s going in the Bay

These ViAir units are the best quality ones I've found to keep in the car.

I went through several cheap ones that took forever to fill up a tire, and made tons of noise before I got one that actually works.

For the house I have a craftsman 27 gallon.

The one I 'suggest' in Post # 3 is a real compressor - and it's under $40. - has no problem with any tire inflation needs I've had - I'm just sayin you don't need to spend a fortune to inflate tires
