Man you guys are missing the whole point. It's not the driving in the rain that is the problem. Try cleaning that engine compartment and wheel wells for a show, that's where you start cussing a blue streak about the stupidity of driving in the rain !

You just totally ruined the re-sale value. Before I retired I used my vettes as DD in the Atlanta area. Wait till you drive one in the snow or on ice. You will be surprised how well all the traction controls work. We now live along the coast in SC so snow is just that funny white stuff you see on TV. I just think of rain as a pre-wash rinse.

Melting Slicks
My recently purchased 06 with babied 7500 miles on it has never seen rain. The original owner NEVER drove it in the rain, only on sunny days, and just usually to the Golf course. This explains the very low miles in 7 years. In the month that i have owned it hasnt seen rain yet, but I know this will change come August when we head down to Carlisle for 4 days. I 10 years of attending Corvettes at Carlisle, I have nevern not got caught in the rain at least once, either on the way down, back, or during...

I HAD to open this thread and read the OP's posting and the replies. I've never owned a Vette until last weekend when I picked up my '13 GS convertible, but I've heard all the "Never in the rain" stories and seen the adverts on CL about never having been driven in the wet. I bought my car on a Friday night and come Saturday delivery time, it was raining to beat the band. Drove it home in an absolute frog-strangler monsoon and put it to bed wet! I've even driven it on a washed out (shudder)gravel road already...with great care to avoid ripping off the lower air dam, of course.
I'm of the opinion that if I couldn't afford--or couldn't bring myself--to enjoy my Vette any time I wanted to, it didn't make a lot of sense to own one. I do understand the lament of trying to keep up with the detailing, but I knew from start this wasn't gonna be a show car. And as someone already pointed out, my car's born on date was Dec 2012, so it's already spent at least 6 months sitting in the sun/rain/snow/hail on the dealer's lot before I signed on the dotted line....

Mine is not a DD and is an 08 with 29,000 miles and IT has never had the wipers on.
It has experienced some scattered rain drops but not enough to need the wipers or have the tires kick up water.
So the question is it still a virgin regarding rain?
I bought my vette to enjoy as needed and that is always when it is in pristine condition.
A dirty corvette is well just another dirty car on the road.
A clean corvette on the road is a CORVETTE!
Mine is not a show car either, I just like it to looked nice when I drive it.
Different strokes for different folks.

I dont get it? I hear guys say it has never been driven in the rain. So let me ask this question, do you wash the car? Because I always thought water was water. I laugh my azz off when I hear guys say this. What the hell is gonna happen in the rain? You gonna melt?

Safety Car
We do very much the same. But I was quite surprised when I ran across an ad where the seller made the claim that it had never seen rain nor been eaten in. I like to buy those kind of cars but I won't have a car that I can't eat a snack and drink some coffee.

I used to keep my C6 garaged anytime it threatened rain just to keep it nice and clean all the time. Then my daughter needed to borrow my DD, my silver Buick Regal GS, which I drove on days when it was raining. I only hesitated for a second before letting her use it, realizing that I'd have to drive the Vette everyday, rain or shine.
Well, it's become my full-time daily driver and I couldn't be happier. Rain or shine, it's a great car and a blast to drive. It really does clean up well and looks as if it just left the showroom after I detail it...admittedly more often than before, but I still enjoy doing it.
