GoPro camera
I have a 2013 grand sport. I just bought a GoPro Hero 3 Silver camera. When I use the camera in my Vette I get a lot of static on the audio. It's not that bad in my other cars. Has anyone else used a GoPro in their car and had the same problem? I tried mounting the camera in different locations and it didn't make a difference. If you have any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I used one and mounted it on the windshield behind the mirror. No static though.

Nice video Tim
I too haven't used the closed back. But I think I should start playing with it to see if it cut down on the wind noise. This vid was taken with the back plate that has the 2 slots. Anything over 100 mph and the audio is all wind noise.

And just for reference for the OP, here another gopro video using the same 2 slotted backing plate, mounted inside obviously. Every once and again a little static...almost sounds as if the camera is rattling inside the case.

Each to their own I guess. I did not know if perhaps they were used for security or something. I just am not in love with extra gadgets that can be swiped or require batteries in my car.

I've read of a few folks having issues with the GoPro 3 but I cannot articulate enough about that particular model. I use a GoPro2 with the adhesive mount positioned up and to the right of the rearview mirror. Works great there and have no issues with it.
Reason for the camera? Many! It is a GREAT learning tool for track events (see where things went right/wrong, the oooops moments, the great saves...also useful for remembering the line if you have not been out to a particular track lately). Really easy to dismount, it has a quick clip that locks it in and then you depress both side to release it. Simple/stupid to use with GREAT results!

I have the Black edition and I mount it on the outside of the windshield about where the rearview mirrror is. No static at all. On my motorcycles its mounted on the front of the fairing just below the windscreen or on another bike, on the master cylinder lid. Works perfectly.

I'm looking at one for defense in everyday driving. With all the road rage could come in handy.

IMHO, the GoPro is the best affordable nitch camera ever invented. It's wide angle, its HQ, its attachable to anything, it's underwater, it is controled from your smart phone. I was just very impressed with its capabilities.

Hey thanks everyone. I guess I just got a couple bad cameras. Don't they say three's a charm? And for the guy who asked about the purpose. If you ever drove a Vette on a racetrack and took a video, I guarantee you will watch it over and over. I got 90 minutes at Ron Fellows in Spring Mountain and must have watched 20 times.

Is "controlled from your smartphone" something that works on all models? I think mine is Hero 2 and I dont have that option.
