Car Show LINE of DEFENSE
Car show LINE of DEFENSE
Hello CF members,
What is your line of defense between your car and unaware sticky fingers, hands, etc...I have a couple of the "hands free device" do ot touch signs, but I had a lady take one of them off the car, flip it over, look at the back and then say "I don't get it". I had to explain to her it is a sign designed to let people know DO NOT TOUCH, Keep your hands free from the device-my car. Geesh, it was kind of humorous. But sad. Anyway any ideas.( leg hold traps are illegal, I checked-haha)
Thanks in advance,

I've thought about ropes, but let me clarify...these are held in parks and parking lots. Generally to bring awareness or to raise funds for various charities. I've never seen ropes or chains... I am not sure of the Etiquette???

You won't see stanchions or rope offs at the majority of outdoor shows but "most" people are respectful but there are always a few that have respect for nothing.

I got one coming up in my community and I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. These folks don't have a clue about car show etiquette.
Probably just leave it in the garage.

Most owners position themselves near their car and watch those that approach. As one poster noted, the vast majority of spectators are respectful and careful. Children are always to be closely watched, especially if their parents are their "friends" rather than their parents.
There ARE some people who are clueless about anything "car". One woman with rivets on her jean pockets leaned against my car once and I asked her politely to move away. She demonstrated some attitude so I explained to her that if she scratched my door, it would cost me $600 to have the door repainted. She seemed shocked that I would spend the money to fix it.
At an prestigious outdoor concours, while I was away to receive an award, a spectator knocked a display sign over and into my car's right rear quarter-panel. The sign did $800 worth of damage, fixed thanks to Hagerty Insurance. The spectator just walked away. I was told about the incident later by a third party who witnessed the whole thing.
Just be aware that damage can occur to any car at any time.

At car shows I have attended most owners put a sign on the inside of the windows, "LOOK BUT PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH"
I have also seen a sign that said "YOU toucha my car I breaka your arm !" ****

Ropes, stanchions, are out- cant be any part of douchebaginess. Ak47/XD-S .45=jail( cuts into my driving time. Tesla coils, not out of the question yet...seriously though, I agree most are respectful. I/we enjoy meeting other car enthusiest. Just seeing if there is a way to politely educate folks. I like the ropes ideas, but it's an outdoor event. I like The idea of positioning myself to welcome folks as they approach. I want all who attends to have a great time, so they may become car nuts or show their ride one day. After all most local shows raise money for charities and that's cool.

People are going to touch it every now and then accidentally or intentionally. May be aggravating but it's not the end of the world. You show it enough it happens. wipe it off and move on.

Just keep a bottle of your favorite spray detailer and a microfiber towel near your car and wipe it down when you see a hand print or bird dropping etc , pretty much every one does that at local car shows !!
