Planning a route from upstate SC to Asheville, NC
Google has what appears to be the most direct route of State road 25 to I-26/74.
Are there any more scenic roads I should detour on that wouldn't add more than say, 30 min to the trip?
Amazingly I've only ever been to Asheville a couple times and not that familiar with the area.

This probably exceeds your 30 minute limit, but we recently drove the "Moonshiner 28" (SC28/GA28/NC28) from Seneca SC up to where it intersects US 74, then 74 to Ashville. A great road, some scenic curvy areas and others that rival the Tail of the Dragon.
Watch out for those decreasing radius turns that are not marked...

Thanks... I know where 28 is in Seneca (the road that goes up the mountains through Walhalla?) but I don't see where it intersects 74 at any point.
Definitely don't want to end up like that M3 guy...

Just south of Smokey Mtn Park, maybe 40 miles west of Ashville.

Ah... out west of Cherokee right near "Fontana lake"? Looks like it is through a ton of forest for sure, but yes, way out of the way from where I'm coming from unfortunately.

If from Greenville take 276 to 64 to I-26
If further west than Greenville IE Clemson, 123 to 178 to 64 to I-26
They are all good and will take you through Brevard NC on 64. Lots of pretty territory between the Upstate and Asheville.
It depends how far west you are from Greenville. I know that 28 is a nice road but goes towards Cherokee which is a long way from Asheville.
I used to live down that way (Central) and have driven those roads. We still visit friends there in Wallhalla. And we make an annual pilgrimage to The Jockey Lot. Oh Jeez. What a place
If you want a nice detour through the National forest that will put you 30 miles west of Asheville, consider 276 to Waynesville and then 23/19 back to Asheville. This may be well worth the detour though I dare say it will be a 2 hr detour from the interstate. It depends on how much time you have. Be aware that 276 from Greenville to Brevard (64) is a nice scenic road while 276 from Brevard to Waynesville has plenty of twisties along with scenic surroundings.
Hope I've helped and not given too much info. Have fun

Thanks J Vette, I will check those out...
I live between Greenville and Clemson... 178 and 25 are both acceptable starting points. Anything Clemson or west of that is getting to be a bit further out of the way than I would like to go.

"The Junky"... oh boy. Yes I'm ashamed to say I follow some old college buddies there in what I can also only term an "annual pilgrimage"... approximately once a year.
