Have you tried putting techron additive in the tank? Try either a tank of Chevron ot Texaco if available, if not add Techron additive to a tank full. Its the cheapest way to try to clean the sending unit. It might take a couple of tanks, but usually a good fix. If that doesn't work, sounds like a trip to the mechanic.

Have run 6 tankfuls with Techron. With a C6 you have to clear the codes to get it to work. It will work for awhile and then go to empty. Then you have to clear codes again.

Bummer Bob. Our C5 did this, and the Techron worked for awhile. Tried some Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas, and the problem went away. Cause and effect? Don't know.

I gave mine a steady diet of Chevron and never had another problem. If I'm out traveling the country in places where Chevron isn't available, I use Shell or other top tier fuel. Arco is what caused my problem during the first 10K miles. 100K later and no problem since.

When I was in college I loved 300 Zx's from Nissan. I had a 1984 turbo. Then I traded that one in and got 50 th anniversary edition 1984 turbo with t tops and ground effects. Both Z's had fuel pump problems. Since I was on a budget I had shop use a grinder to cut a hole in the trunk on both Z's and boom an 800 dollar repair was converted into a used fuel pump that was 20 bucks from the junkyard and 60 bucks in shop labor. They then added an additional piece of sheet metal and some self tapping screws and put the trunk back, no worse for wear. I know you guys will flame me but since my Z is out of warranty, I would cut the trunk open do it that way versus paying all of that money for a pita expensive repair.
