Got pulled over for my blackout taillights.
Driving on I35 heading home going thru Northlake when I went by a local LEO who was on the side of the hwy. This is a known revenue generating area for Northlake.
Was not speeding as I passed the LEO but he pulled in behind me about a mile after I passed him. Chit, what did I do? Pulled over to the shoulder and turned the car off. He came up on the pass side and asked if I knew why I was stopped? No idea I replied. He said it was because of my taillight covers, and went on telling me what the state of Texas requirements are. I replied that my lights comply fully with the law and they are not covers.
He was very nice and said, I never said you were getting a ticket. He ran me thru the system and checked my insurance and told me to have a nice safe drive.
I feel once he saw my lights come on he knew they were ok. They do look very dark when not lit, but are bright red when they are on. This was the first time in 103,000 miles I have been stopped for smoked taillights.
Leo just used this as a reason to stop me and go fishing.

They were fishing, I got pulled over about a month ago because I had blue LEDs in my license plate lights. Local LEO said she was the only one allowed to have blue lights on a vehicle, I have them in my interior lights too and she said get rid af them also. It was 1 AM., headed home from a cookout and she was late night fishing. Ran my paperwork, checked my eyes and breath (haven't had a drink in 30 years), told me to fix the so called problem and let me go. And I am darn near a senior citizen, hate to see what would happen if I was a young buck again.

They are fishing alright ... and hoping they can pop you for DUI (big money for the system).
I sometimes think that after going to the trouble of stopping you, and then finding out that you have not had any alcohol to drink ... they feel a little 'defeated'.

I had them on my C5, though they were LEDs and brighter than stock when on or even brighter with the brake lights so I was never stopped for them and feel lucky I did not get harassed

Sometimes we give cops a reason to stop us. Never been a fan a dark lenses front/back. The manufacture put the correct color lenses front and rear for a reason.............
