Looking for shop to install harminic balancer - Philly area
Hi all. I'm looking for references for a shop to replace my harmoinic balancer. I live in the Philly suburbs. I can always go to the dealer as last resort.
Cheers!

We are not to far from you. Give us a call and we can get everything taken care of. If you get the car to us at 9am then we can have the balancer replaced by lunchtime.

How do you know you need it? My lower belt was squeaking, I had the belt replaced, all was good for a few weeks and now it is squeaking again. It only squeaks for about 10 minutes and then it goes away.

Retired & lovin' it!
The harmonic balancer (or HB) is the large pulley on the nose of the crankshaft at the front of the engine. The HB drives the serpentine belt around the other accessory pulleys. Corvettes (& other GM models) have had reliability problems with this part for many years & it's frustrating for all of us that GM hasn't come up with a better design. In one instance, since GM uses a bolt & friction fit rather than a keyed connection in the nose of the crank, the pulley can work loose & wobble on the shaft. In the second case, the pulley is a 2-part design (inner/outer sleeves) which may start to separate & also wobble. The symptom is a squealing noise from the belt. Unfortunately, repair is expensive since several sub-assemblies have to be removed in order to get to the HB. Hope this explanation helps you....
