Why let vette sit garaged all winter?
Why do so many vette owners let their cars sit garaged all winter? Not driving the car for 3-4 months every year seems ridiculous to me, and it can't be any good for the car either. I can understand not driving it in the snow, but it doesn't snow every day during the winter months and the cold temperatures should not be a deciding factor. I drive mine all year long (I live in MD) except when snow or road salt is present.

My first thought was salt on the road which can eat away at the car faster. Second thought was traction, but that can be learned. Luckily I live in Texas where winters are still summers according to the North folks lol.

I have live for many years in the northern region (VT) and I have seen salt destroy cars almost before they are paid for...so I wouldn't drive my vette in that

Around here you pretty much have either salt, sand, or ice on the roads all winter.

If you read the warnings on the tires (At least the ones available for the Z06) they warn not to drive it in temps under ~40 degrees or so)
It's bad for both the tires and your car (NO traction)

My feelings are that in NJ there is an issue with salt on the roads. I can't stand seeing my car dirty and it's too cold to hand wash most of the winter so that's why I have a DD and am able to run it through the car wash. I'd never put my car through the car wash. I wouldn't even think of taking it out in the snow since my DD is AWD, makes no sense.

For all the reasons stated, but most importantly, because I can!

I drive all year round in my beautiful black c6.....I agree...
My first corvette I saved in the garage and the second owner was quite grateful...
The next two are daily drivers. These cars are so reasonably priced I see no reason to "save" them...besides I wash the black car weekly so nothing is getting destroyed or damaged.
I hit the car with a high speed polisher twice a year and it always looks brand new.
Most importantly I get to smile all year long as I enjoy my sports car.
Cold winter air makes more hp and the drop in tire adhesion is something to be aware of and have a few laughs from time to time.
For those that save their corvettes during the winter months...that's cool too..
Buyers choice

Rich from Cleveland, here---
My summer car since 2001 is a 1965 Malibu SS Convertible. Have to garage it between approximately November and late April when the first big rainstorm washes the salt away. Going to do the same with the C6.
The roads here are bad and the snow gets deep. Salt everywhere... My wife and I each have a Subaru wagon for the winter.
I'll drive the Corvette in the rain, that's fine; but 3 inches of clearance in 12" of snow just won't get me back and forth to work or the grocery store.

To each their own - For me, as others have stated:
snow
freezing rain
salt
sand
cinders
potholes
summer perf tires
low clearance
the luxury of having another vehicle
I would rather have a special car in excellent condition 7 to 8 months of the year, than a winter weather compromised car with dangerous winter weather driving characteristics, 12 months a year.
