MUFFLER MOD my verson! **PICS & Video inside**
Finally got around to puttin this on here. Figured some of you guys might like this. I've owned my vette for a lil less than a year now and always hated how quite it was and also how expensive catbacks were for it. So...with my redneck engineering and mechanice wannabe skills i made her louder....
heres a video of the car with the "muffler mod" done to it. if you don't know what that is search for the thread..its huge. pretty much you just drill some holes in a pip inside the muffler...
traded an old fishing rod for a set of stock mufflers.
Step 1: Cut open muffler. Heres a picture of a completely stock muffler with all the fiberglass in it. Found out something i didn't know while doin all this. piping is 2.5" going into the muffler and goes down to 2" inside the muffler.
Step 2: Remove packing and cut out the 3 middle pipes.
Step 3: Weld back together, paint, and reinstall. Sorry didn't get any pictures of the welded mufflers.
Step 4: Enjoy the new sound and save big $$ on a cat-back
Overall i am VERY pleased. I watched videos of straight piped C6's all week on youtube trying to decide which route to go. All i can say is I'm glad i went the route i did. Sounds perfect to me!! Not loud enough to get ya noticed by the law.

I purchased my 2005 Corvette 6 months ago. It came will resonator mufflers welded in place of the H-pipes. The mufflers in rear were replaced with straight pipes then chrome tips. I had major drone problems.
The op's mod to his mufflers should probably perform the same way as my straight pipes worked. Since the mods were only made to the muffler that should mean the location I had my resonators this car would have the H-pipes.(see pictures of my old setup)
I would think that the H-pipes should be louder than my resonators. But, maybe the open chamber in the muffler housing provides enough damping to lessen the drone effect.
I also remember reading in the forum about another muffler mod where you drill a 3/4 hole in your muffler and inner pipe. (youtube and forum Links are below)This mod warns you to not make the hole larger than 3/4 or 7/8 because you will have drone problems. The larger hole you are warned about is no way larger than completely cutting the pipe.

This op has a Great mod idea...Sorry I got drone fears. If someone tries this mod please post your findings...

I had done that muffler mod a couple monthsback. Drilled two 1/2 inch holes in the pipe and pulled out the fiberglass packing. Still wasn't loud enough for me.
To me there is no drone but maybe I'm not as sensitive to it as others

Wow. Just pay the $600 for a set of flowmasters or something. Man thats alot of work. Dont forget the stock mufflers are a pain in the *** to remove and install back on. It would be easier just to get a smaller body muffler setup and install them. Bigger tips and better sound with the right engineering behind it as to NOT rob power.

Someone mentioned condensation in the original mod thread. The video of the before and after illustrates how much moisture comes out the pipes. Seems to me a bunch of it will go out the mod hole and settle in the bottom of the muffler housing.
